Remnants
Remnants, sometimes called Revenants, are the remains of angels and demons,
after their Celestial Forces have been stripped from them. When an angel
or demon is killed, if he possessed a physical form there is always a chance
that it will manifest on Earth to live out the rest of its life, cut off
from the glory and the grandeur that are the brilliance of Heaven and the
comforting darkness of Hell. Other celestials avoid Remnants; they're considered
bad luck.
Unlike the Outcasts, a Remnant's Celestial Forces have been totally obliterated,
and their Corporeal and Ethereal Forces damaged to the level of mere humanity
(no more than 5 Forces, total).
Frequently, though they have lost their divine or infernal natures, they
still have tiny Essence Resevoirs and a meager arsenal of Songs, though
they may cannot move to the ethereal plane or listen to the
Symphony
any easier than another human. A Remnant could be useful in an Earth-bound
campaign, with the promise of Essence or at least a more comfortable existance
as a reward for good service. Some angelic Remnants are called Revenants,
out of respect.
The minds of Remnants are small and confused. They can't quite remember
what it was like, being so grandly celestial -- they can no longer concieve
of the Symphony -- but they know that they've lost something, a huge part
of themselves. Some Remnants, a rare few, may still have the memory of having
lost everything for what they thought was a good cause. Others don't remember
what they did, who they were, and don't care either way.
