Novalis, Archangel of Plants

Belonging to the House of Fortitude

Philosophy

The world is at peace. This peace is occasionally broken by the loud and strident voices of the savage and the cruel -- the servants of Novalis are charged with calming the minds of humanity, without causing further destruction.

Dissonance

Sworn to the cause of peace, angels who serve Novalis may not kill humans for any reason. Damaging is okay, pruning is okay, killing is not. Killing a human is not merely dissonant, but severely punishable by the slow-to-anger Novalis herself.

Attunements

Seraphim
You can feel an undeniable aura of peace emanating from the Seraphim of Novalis. To take a violent action, a person must make a Will roll minus the angel's total Forces, +1 for every yard away from the Seraph the aggressor is.

Cherubim
The Cherubim of Novalis, peaceful angels of great devotion, can take the corporeal damage of those they touch onto themselves.

Ofanim
Ofanim serving Novalis may collapse the pattern of their being into an energy capable of traversing the finely woven web of plant life which encircles the Earth. Once a day (or after completing one of Novalis' Rites) they may move, instantly and invisibly, through the root system of plant life to anywhere within their line of sight that a plant exists.

Elohim
Novalis' Elohim have a peculiar attunement to plant life. They have access to the strange feelings of plants, and by looking at them can understand the basic gist of what's happened around them in the past 24 hours.

Malakim
Malakim serving Novalis can control plants, a little bit. Foliage parts for their passage, and can entangle their enemies if the angel is within a number of yards equal to his Corporeal Forces.

Kyriotates
The Kyriotates who serve the Word of Plants can make powerful vessels from plants, without having to make a resonance roll. These angels are charged with frightening those whom they observe being cruel to plant life. They're the only of Novalis' servants who don't generate dissonance when they kill humans, but only if they kill with their plant vessels.

Mercurians
When in their Celestial forms, Novalis' Mercurians fill observant humans with joy. If a human makes his Perception roll to see an celestially-manifest Mercurian, then the next roll he makes for a non-violent action will be modified by the check digit of the successful roll!

Manner and Appearance

Novalis is a Cherub, a peaceful happy protector of Earth's plantlife. Her human vessel looks like a debutant "hippy chick," flamboyant and introspective at different turns. She is light and quick, both in body and spirit.
Her servants may be as precise as a freshly bonsai-ed tree, or as wild and flowing as a valley of kudzu. None of her angels would feel out of place at a Grateful Dead concert.

Relations

Novalis and her servants get along with all the Archangels. It's not that they're neutral so much as they're so damn friendly, you can't help but like them. And since Novalis has no other political agendas besides supporting her Glade (see p. 00), it doesn't cost the other Archangels anything to care.
However, she won't like her servants helping out in overtly violent situations, unless there's a reasonable chance that her servants' help may prevent a job from turning bloody. Too many violent outbursts, even if no deaths are involved, and she may ask that angel to look elsewhere for support from the Heavens.

Missions

Nothing But Flowers. In central Arkansas, a small-town sheriff's race ends with one of the candidates being lynched in the night by white-hooded yokels. When they set his house on fire, servants of Belial got it to spread away from the whole town, scorching more than 15,000 acres. Novalis wants to swamp the city with fast growing poison ivy, until she discovers some servants of Gabriel are planning to take out the whole town in a retaliatory strike against Belial. Join with a servant of Dominic and take out Novalis' revenge on the breakers of the peace (and the destroyers of plants) with as little violence as possible.
