Khalid, Archangel of Faith
Belonging to the House of Temperance
Philosophy
The world is ineffible, incomprehensible, more complicated than anyone on
this plane of reality could ever imagine. The power of faith -- whether
it be in something mundane or fantastic -- is similarly inexplicable, but
the Archangel Khalid believes it must be preserved at all costs.
Dissonance
Angels of Faith are instructed to perform miracles, but subtle ones, hidden
ones. Khalid's servants can never allow their true origins to be found out.
They must prevent humans from acquiring proof of the existance of the celestial
realm. If an angel allows undeniable physical proof of the heavens to drop
into the hands of mortals, he will gain a note of dissonance until it is
retreived. It is also dissonant for an angel serving the Word of Faith to
kill a human who has true and unquestioning faith in something beyond himself.
Attunements
Purposefully mysterious, Khalid's servants don't ever let on more than they
have to. They have the ability to see faith in a person's eyes; these angels
know what humans believe in.Also, every Choir of angel has one characteristic
boosted by 1 point; the particular characteristic enhanced varies from Choir
to Choir.
Seraphim
Seraphim find themselves in something of a predicament working for Khalid.
It's not given to them to lie, yet faith in the greatly improvable and wildly
improbable must be maintained. Khalid's Seraphim have their Precisions increased
by 1, which helps them to stay surprisingly tight-lipped, for Seraphim.
Cherubim
The most devoted angels in the universe are the Cherubim serving Khalid,
who are granted an increased Perception and the ability to know what someone
whom they are attuned to believes in most strongly.
Ofanim
Ofanim who work for Khalid have a +1 to their Agility. They specifically
target lovers, helping them to get together, and have the ability to see
true and faithful love in the eyes of humanity.
Elohim
Khalid's Elohim may choose which of their characteristics to enhance. Solid
and steady, the angels of balance and reserve have the ability to see what
a person believes in using their natural resonance. But whenever an Elohite
of Faith breaks the faith of his word, for any reason, he generates a note
of dissonance.
Malakim
Khalid's Malakim are granted an additional point of Strength to help them
punish those who have caused pain with their faithlessness. The deep eyes
of the Malakim can spot these people from ten yards away.
Kyriotates
The Kyriotate who does the work of Faith has a Will enhanced by 1 point.
He also has the ability to forcibly enter a human's corporeal vessel for
a brief moment and give that person true faith in
anything, lasting
for a number of minutes equal to the angel's Celestial Forces.
Mercurians
The characteristic of Intelligence has been increased in all of Khalid's
Mercurians. They are charged with making miracles from the mundane, without
celestial means. Every time humans must accept as miraculous something done
by a Mercurian working for Khalid, the angel gets a point of Essence.
Manner and Appearance
Khalid is one of the Elohim. After sharing credit for the birth of Islam
with Gabriel, Khalid proceeded to amplify his own stature within the Archangels.
Though some speculate privately that he has been corrupted by the same forces
that he fights against, he's made a point of being seen publically with
some of Dominic's Malakim on several occasions, angels who would recognize
dissonance if Khalid had any within him. But he doesn't back down from the
charges made against him, and while he hasn't taken any action that would
put him within range of Falling, it doesn't paint a portrait of a nice guy.
In particular, Khalid is extremely harsh on his servants, punishing failure
with dissonance and insolence with Discord. He also demands the angels of
Faith keep their Hearts in his citadel, so that he can better help them
if they run into trouble. Outside of his Heaven, this is widely considered
nothing less than a sign of supplication. Fortunately for him, most servants
of Khalid are more maniacally loyal than David's followers; they perform
torturous rituals upon themselves to purify their spirits, similar to the
sort of scarification connnected with the Haballah (see p. 00).
Those who accept that their Heart is, literally, in his hands, will find
him a devoutly protective master in return - and while he doesn't like explaining
his methods or his madness, even his worst adversaries acknowledge that
things seem to be turning out for the better.
Khalid hates appearing in a human form, as he feels it makes him appear
mundane and weak. Both he and his servants prefer to remain distant from
the ordinary cattle of humanity, observing from afar while picking up information
to be used at a later time.
Relations
Khalid uses Gabriel's servants on occasion, as their skills at keeping the
Symphony in greatest order with the least destruction are without peer --
but secretly, he despises Gabriel for reducing the power of the House of
Temperance when she realigned herself with the House of Judgement.
He can't bring himself to hate Janus for helping her make the move, but
Khalid will do anything he can to help engender feelings of hate and repulsion
in his servants toward Gabriel and her followers.
Khalid insists that his servants bend over backwards to help Michael's angels,
and very loudly evangelize their importance when they can. The more prominant
Khalid can make stories of his servants aiding Michael's in a crunch, the
more ammunition he'll have towards swaying popular opinion against the Archangel
of War.
The servants of Faith can be annoying sometimes; it's said they spend too
much time trying to convert other angels to Khalid's camp than actually
fighting against the demons, but this is probably popular exaggeration .

Missions
Reconsider My Foolish Notion. A statue of the Virgin Mary is crying
blood, spurring a slew of miracle stories and a general strengthening of
the area's faith, but you can just
feel diabolical Essence seeping
through the area. Why would demons want to give people faith, especially
in such a crass way? And just what is the priest doing with the blood he
collects from the statue?
He Knows If You've Been Bad or Good. A child in Minnesota has lost
faith in Santa Claus after her father was shot sneaking into his house on
Christmas Eve, by her mother's lover. It's been almost a year since then,
and the mother has since married the murderer -- renew the child's faith
in Santa Claus, and kill the slaughterer of faith and his betraying hussy.
Show kindness, but no mercy.
Rites
- Kill one of the faithless.
- One day before a holiday, successfully inspire faith in a human being
with an imaginary figure associated with that holiday (like Santa Claus
and Jesus on Christmas, or the Easter Bunny or Jesus on Easter, etc.).
- Slay a demon and bury his vessel in consecrated ground.
