Janus, Archangel of Wind

Belonging to the House of Justice

Philosophy

The world is a wind. It sweeps across the hearts and minds of its inhabitants, bending the soft things and destroying whatever else stands in its way. The servants of Janus are Heaven's agents of change, charged with shaking up the establishment and making the static into the dynamic.

Dissonance

It's dissonant for the servants of Janus to stay in the same place for more than 3 days. A locale, in the modern world, can be interpreted as a city, but some cities (New York, L.A., etc.) sprawl over enough land that different parts of them could be considered different locales. But it's important for those who serve Wind to keep moving, at all costs.

Attunements

Since being unnecessarily detained can be fatal, Janus's servants have an attunement for motion much like the nature of the Ofanim.

Seraphim
The Seraphim of Wind can add the number of their Celestial Forces to their Debate skill rolls, similar to their infernal cousins, the Balseraphs. This won't let them lie without generating dissonance, but it will help them sway someone's opinion with the overall hope of greasing the wheels of the Symphony.

Cherubim
Cherubim working for Janus can only attune themselves to one person at a time, but the subject of that attunement becomes enthralled with the Cherub (like a Servant Resource at a level equal to the angel's Celestial Forces), acting as his servant as long as the attunement lasts.

Ofanim
Quick-moving Ofanim supporting the Word of Winds may add the number of their Ethereal Forces to any roll involving breaking locks, opening doors or otherwise freeing themselves from corporeal restraint.

Elohim
Elohim serving Janus can look at the sky and accurately predict the weather, barring the intervention of Celestial Forces, for a number of days into the future equal to their Ethereal Forces.

Malakim
The dark riders who serve the Archangel of Winds are extraordinary demolition experts. They may use the number of their Ethereal Forces as a positive modifier to any roll involving making, setting and using explosives.

Kyriotates
Kyriotates serving Janus may assume gaseous form, manifesting in the corporeal realm without the need of a host vessel. They can't communicate verbally or interact with the world in any significant way, and can move at one-quarter their normal rate. The angel, in gaseous form, may be spotted by an observer if he can make a successful Perception roll, made easier by every note of dissonance the angel has.

Mercurians
Janus' Mercurians can move through crowds like eels through coral. Waves of humanity seem to part for them, whether or not the angel's presence is visible.

Manner and Appearance

Janus is one of the Ofanim, and one of the oldest Archangels. Though his very nature is to promote change, whatever the cost, he himself has changed very little in the past millenia. In fact, like many Archangels, his pace seems to be picking up, accellerating to a whirlwind pace.

He's extraordinarily gregarious, but also just as quick to condemn a friend than praise him. Fortunately, after one of his fits passes, he is very, very apologetic. While some people have begun to worry about his stability, both Gabriel and Dominic stand up for him, noting that his sometimes-violent mood swings are merely a side-effect of his role in the world of large. No one denies that Janus is genuinely friendly, hard-working and a hell a lot of fun.

The servants of Janus are easy to spot: reckless youth, hanging out of the side of a speeding car to regenerate Essence, zooming from one town to another, attending rallies, blowing up cars, acting for change.

Relations

Janus is devoted to Michael, and rarely speaks to counter his opinion. When he does, it's usually to point out the rights and responsibilities of those in the House of Justice.

It is common knowledge that Janus is very close friends with Michael, David and Gabriel; in fact, it was Janus who invited Gabriel to join himself and Dominic as an Archangel of Justice, something for which he believes Khalid has never forgiven him. Janus asks that Khalid, as someone wound so tight that another twist may cause him to snap, feel the brunt of his servants' collateral damage when at all possible.

Missions

The Answer, My Friends. The servants of Janus aim to disrupt normalcy and cause as much chaos as possible without upsetting the overall balance of the Symphony. A typical scenario has an angel of Janus come to town, figure out where the people with the tightest asses are, and mayhem ensues. Although really, you can pretty much take any situation, inject the servants of Janus, and it'll end with, "and mayhem ensues."

Rites

Chance of Invocation: 0

Invocation Modifiers

The Archangel Janus does not ever wish to be summoned. Unlike the other Archangels, he doesn't pay any attention at all to the Symphony for someone invoking his name. But even though the storm can't be summoned doesn't mean there aren't ways of attracting its attention.
Spot a tornado in direct, unaided line-of-sight (+1)
Blow up a government building (+3)

Free-falling for more than 10 seconds (+6)
