Dominic, Archangel of Judgement

Belonging to the House of Justice
Philosophy

The world is a game, whose rules must be followed. Rule-breakers are forces of corruption, who must be eliminated for the good of the order. Dominic's servants are charged with rooting out corruption in the Symphony, even among angels -- especially among angels.

Dissonance

It is dissonant for servants of Dominic to inflict a punishment greater the crime, or to vent their wrath upon an innocent.

Attunements

Seraphim
Dominic's Seraphim are the inquisitors of the celestial realm, seeking out corruption both internal and external. Questions asked by Dominic's Seraphim must be answered, or the offending angel may be held for further questioning. Their resonance rolls to determine a subject's truthfulness are modified by the number of Celestial Forces they have.

Cherubim
When attuned to a subject of Inquiry, Dominic's Cherubim do not generate dissonance if the subject is hurt.

Ofanim
Dominic's Ofanim can hear Discord like a constant wailing scream, even if it's coming from an angel. They can tell exactly what Discord a being has, and how bad they've got it.

Elohim
Dominic's Elohim can see guilty feelings dripping across people's faces like bloody sweat, whether or not they've actually done anything to feel guilty about.

Malakim
Malakim working for the Archangel of Judgment can hear dissonant tones in angels and demons, just like Dominic's Ofanim can hear Discord in others. If they come across Malakim with more than one tone of dissonance, they must report it to a superior immediately.

Kyriotates
Kyriotates working for Dominic don't generate dissonance for taking poor care of someone else's vessel if the vessel's owner has Discord.

Mercurians
Dominic's Mercurians can use their Choir's natural resonance to tell them what a human's most deviant behavior has been, in addition to the knowledge normally obtained through their resonance.

Manner and Appearance

Dominic is a Malakim. He moves slowly under his heavy black robes, countless eyes peering from his celestial head. In the corporeal realm, he can manifest as a man (Dominic) or a woman (Dominique) -- his Judgements aren't gender-biased, he'll damn anyone to Hell and who cares what they look like.

Widely considered the most tyrannical of the Archangels, he's the head of the Divine Inquisition. This organization is charged with rooting out dissention within the angelic ranks and dealing with troublemakers, like Discordant angels and Outcasts -- and even demonic Renegades! Dominic's angels are reportedly the only divine servitor who work with demons on a regular basis, helping them keep their own hordes in line. Dominic, as a Malakim, won't acknowledge the truth of this, but the cold silence from his servants tells the whole story.

The Divine Inquisition is organized in triads, groups of three angels: a Cherub, attuned to the subject of Inquiry; a Seraph, to resolve the subject's true guilt; and an angel of any other Choir, to carry out the sentence. A guilty party's sentence is decided by a majority vote from members of the triad assigned to the case. If the guilty party is of higher rank or stature than the angels assigned to the case, or the vote resolves in a deadlock, a more powerful triad must be called in to add their votes to the issue and help carry out the sentence.

Only favored servants, like the player characters, operate autonomously, but Dominic reserves for them missions which require the greatest discretion.

The Archangel of Judgement has a rehabilitation center on Earth, in southern Italy, where straying angels are taken to be reminded of their duties. He's been running it for more than two centuries, but no one has actually come out . . . Michael has asked to visit it several times, but Dominic has always had a rock-solid excuse. If the Archangel of Judgement can't explain what's going on soon, Michael may ask some of his favored servants to drop by, just to see what's going on.

Relations

Dominic has proven in the past to be universally unaligned to any particular Archangelic faction and, even more than most Malakim, unshakably focused to the task at hand. The other Archangels, even Michael, are beginning to think Dominic's a little too narrow-minded, but over-zealousness aside he and his servants do get the job done.

Missions

You Pick Up the Pieces. An servant of Gabriel and a servant of Janus have each laid claim to a human's life for cruelties committed against an angel. It seems this poor wretch of a human drugged a servant of Novalis at a concert, took her back to his apartment where it appears he tortured and eventually killed her in unspeakable circumstances.

The agents of Janus had been watching the bastard for months and were about to sweep in for the kill, but the pacifistic Novalis has asked her friend Gabriel for a more personal revenge. Things get more complicated when Dominic reveals to you that the suspect in question -- who is still walking the streets while angels argue over jurisdiction -- is actually a covert agent of Dominic, on a mission so secret your master won't even speak of it! He claims privately that the slain angel was dissonant, and a tease besides. Resolve the situation with as little fuss as possible, and smooth over any rough political edges or you'll be walking the streets of Bangladesh with a mop and a garden hose before you can say, "D'oh!"

Rites

Chance of Invocation

Dominic may not be summoned. He checks in on his favored servants once a week, and always expects a full report of the previous seven days' successes.
