October 6, 2019: Autoduel Weekly: Car Wars For Two

We recently announced the estimated Kickstarter cost for the Car Wars Sixth Edition game, and some of you expressed concern over the price. Boxes loaded with cards, tokens, custom dashboards, several dice, and large miniatures are not inexpensive, and we recognize that some of you may not have the allowance to get in on the campaign at the four-player core box level. After some discussion, plotting, and planning, we're happy to report that we've found a way to craft a two-player Car Wars Sixth Edition set that will offer a lower-priced entry into the game.

The $60 reward level (estimated price) will include three plastic miniatures, the game rules, and all of the cards, tokens, and bits needed for two players to sit down and enjoy the fun. We will offer two different two-player packs – divided by color – and a few of the project stretch goals will upgrade these sets to include four plastic miniatures. And if you've not yet seen the miniatures, then you definitely want to start following us on Facebook where we have been sharing photos of the designs.

As you can tell by the above Facebook post, the Car Wars Sixth Edition minis are significantly larger than you may first expect. By upsizing the project to 1/64 scale, we've made the cars far more dramatic on the table. In addition, it opened the door for customizers who enjoy adapting die-cast toy cars to their games. You will need the game tools – bases, cards, dice, dashboards, turning key, tokens – to play, even if using customized toy cars, so that two-player set may also be a great choice if you want to get your feet wet with the game but plan to craft a lot of your own minis.

To keep the two-player sets priced as low as possible, the $60 box will not be designed for retail sale. It will not feature artwork, allowing us to skip the glossy, color box printing and go with an inexpensive, pizza-style eflute box, designed to protect and store the components. We'll let the majority of the cost rest in the components needed to play the game. The four-player box, however, will be designed for retail sale.
