November 20, 2019: Munchkin Musings: November 2019

Mmm, turkey.Time to talk turkey . . .

Not sure yet when this will post, but I'm writing it only two weeks after the October Musings post went live because I'll be taking a week off mid-month to attend BGG.CON in Dallas and the following week is Thanksgiving in the United States. (By the time this posts, I'll probably be in Dallas, unless I'm already back home in a turkey coma.) If I don't write it now, we might not get any Musings at all this month. This means that I'm not exactly chock full of updates . . . but I have a few.

First: Last month, I talked about a "super cute Munchkin project scheduled for Kickstarter [later] this year." We've decided to delay this one until 2020 so we can focus all our attention this month on getting the Car Wars Kickstarter up and running (launches on Black Friday! Follow Steve Jackson Games and Warehouse 23 on Kickstarter to find out as soon as it goes live! end of ad) and give both projects the room they need to soar.

Second: I didn't mention this as loudly as I intended last month, but our holiday vault is open! We don't usually sell our Christmas-themed Munchkin swag year-round, so if you have a hankering for some Santa action, Warehouse 23 has got what you need. We're also always happy for you to support your local game store, of course, and be sure to tell them we sent you!

Third: Munchkin: Quacked Quest! Go read that announcement and then go download the game and grab some ducks! Be sure to check out Steve live in Paris yesterday as the game was released!

Fourth: As of this writing, I've finished off the unlicensed core game I mentioned in October and it is now in production, with art from the incomparable Katie Cook. I am well into the design of another unlicensed core game, also planned for 2020, with art by someone to be named later. Additionally, we've been seeing a lot of art from John Kovalic for one of the expansions I mentioned last month and we should have all of it in-house and approved by the end of the month. I even ran a super-secret NDA-required playtest for next year's hot Munchkin set from USAopoly. The fun never stops . . . and I still have more writing to do before the year is out!

Fifth: Our Halloween game day was indeed awesome! I played Retro Loonacy from our looney friends at Looney Labs, Terror Below from the outlaws at Renegade, Century Golem Edition Eastern Mountains from Plan B Games, and Dice Forge from Libellud. Enjoyed them all and am looking forward to replays down the road. (We'll do it again on December 19 at our end-of-year game day . . . because sometimes we have to remind ourselves that we are a game company!)

Whether you live in the U.S. or elsewhere, I hope you have plenty to be thankful for this year. We'll be back in December with the annual Year In Review report.
