August 25, 2018: Munchkin Musings: August 2018Now that we've been back from Gen Con for a couple of weeks and the con crud has burned itself out, it's time to recap our news and tease some things for the future! Munchkin Crazy Cooks! We announced this new Deluxe-style set at the show. It's going to be in Barnes & Noble stores next month, but you can order it right now on their website. This game takes the classic Elves, Dwarves, and Halflings and sends them to culinary school to become BBQ Bosses, French Chefs, Short Order Cooks, or Science Chefs. In this game, the monsters give you Food tokens when you beat them, and collecting a balanced diet gives you a level, which can win the game! Munchkin Warhammer 40,000! This was the big surprise announcement of this year's show and we're very pleased with all the positive responses. It has been a lot of fun getting to work with one of the best-developed game settings around! We'll have a lot more to say about this game in the coming weeks (starting with the first Design Diary, already posted!), so keep watching the Daily Illuminator and social media for more news. Munchkin Steampunk: Girl Genius! This wasn't actually a Gen Con announcement, but it came out just after the show, so we'll count it. We're making a Munchkin Steampunk expansion based on Phil Foglio's Girl Genius webcomic . . . and since Phil drew Munchkin Steampunk itself, this is a perfect fit! This expansion introduces Sparks, from the comic, and we'll talk more about how these work as we reveal more about this great new set. (The announcement is a tiny bit optimistic. We'll see this expansion in 2019!) Munchkin Dungeon! We met with Eric Lang and the CMON team to take a peek at their progress on the new Munchkin boardgame. The highlight of the meeting was getting to examine (play with) the prototypes of the miniatures that will be included in the game. They are really nice! This is on track for a 2019 release. Munchkin Harry Potter Deluxe! We talked with the USAopoly team and they have confirmed that this long-awaited game will be coming out later this year. Let the Sorting Hat place you in a House at Hogwarts and then fight off all manner of nasty beasts, all the way up to You Know Who! (Spoiler: It's Voldemort. It's always Voldemort.) Munchkin Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! We also talked to the folks at IDW about the aftermath of the huge Kickstarter for this game. They're on track to have games shipping to backers later this year, so whether you got the regular, Deluxe, or Ultimate Deluxe edition, you'll be adventuring in the sewers by Christmas! (Note to our marketing department: Please come up with a better tag line.) Munchkin Red Dragon Inn! We got to see the final, packaged Allies set with Spyke and Flower, and it looks amazing. SlugFest has sent out games to their Kickstarter backers and we're looking forward to putting the Munchkin expansion into stores next month. CEO Phil Reed had a bunch of good meetings at the show, and we'll be revealing the outcomes of those in due course. We have LOTS of fun stuff to tell you in the months to come! For now, though, I've got a whole lot of Munchkin cards to write, so I'll cut this short and we'll chat again in September. P.S. Oh, wait! Don't forget about the pre-orders for Munchkin Starfinder (including Munchkin Starfinder 2 – Far Out and Munchkin Starfinder I Want It All!), Munchkin Unicorns and Friends, the Munchkin Mat of Mayhem, the Munchkin Shakespeare Globe Theatre Playmat, and the Level-tracking playmat for The Good, the Bad, and the Munchkin! So many good Munchkin games, expansions, and accessories waiting for their forever homes . . . Share this post! |
