Steve Jackson Games Authors' Guidelines: Getting Started

TO: All our writers and potential writers

RE: What we're looking for right now! - updated April 10, 2008

Start by looking at our Wish List page. These are supplements that we KNOW we want, and we're looking for authors for them right now.

Most of these are GURPS or In Nomine products. We are not looking for freelance submissions for Car Wars, Illuminati, or INWO expansions.

If you are thinking of proposing any kind of licensed product (something based on an existing book, TV series, or movie), please don't. Likewise, please don't propose any short stand-alone adventure, or any new roleplaying system. That doesn't mean, "Include a really earnest cover letter to talk me into it." That means, "I won't even read the proposal." We really can't use them.

Boardgames and stand-alone card games are very popular right now, but I have a half-dozen good designs on the shelf, waiting for the resources to become available to publish them. Trading card games are right out -- no more, please! No more! No! BEFORE submitting your card or board game read these guidelines.

We do not publish home computer games -- not even based on our own games. However we will license our games to companies who are interested in producing computerized versions of them.

Pyramid magazine always needs reviews, articles, short adventures and scenarios for various systems, and other interesting stuff. Read the last few issues to get an idea what we want. This is BY FAR the best way to start with us right now. If you are a new writer (or at least new to us), you should look very hard at Pyramid. Or, if you're a Traveller fan, at the Journal of the Travellers Aid Society, which also needs articles!

Best, and good luck to you -

Steve Jackson
