FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – May 18, 2001
Austin, TX – Pyramid Magazine subscribers will now get advance looks at playtest versions of upcoming releases from both Guardians of Order and Grey Ghost Press.
One of the benefits of Steve Jackson Games' Pyramid Magazine is the playtest files. Text files of upcoming roleplaying products are available to all Pyramid subscribers in several formats. "It's a win-win situation," Steve Jackson said. "The subscribers get a sneak peek at future products and a chance to make suggestions that frequently end up in the final draft, which is added value for them. And all those comments make our games much, much better."
After years of playtesting only SJ Games products, Pyramid has opened its virtual doors to other game companies. The first two to step through are Guardians of Order and Grey Ghost Press. "Win-win again," Jackson said. "The companies get an online host for their playtesting and a ready-built audience, and we get a chance to pick up some more subscribers from their fan base."
Three new products are currently posted. Guardians of Order's new edition of Hong Kong Action Theatre! Second Edition, is available for playtest now, and Grey Ghost Press has posted files for its Terra Incognita: The NAGS Society Handbook and The Deryni Roleplaying Game.
More companies are likely to join the program in the future. "Pyramid is a great resource for all gamers, and is now even more valuable for fans of our products," said Guardians Of Order President Mark C. MacKinnon. "We are pleased to be working with Pyramid and its subscribers, for it can only result in the release of higher-quality publications. Guardians Of Order is committed to using the on-line playtests for many more products in the future."
Ann Dupuis of Grey Ghost Press said, "Grey Ghost Press has been running its own playtest area out of fudgerpg.com, but we use a mailing list for playtest discussions. With several products in the playtest stage, the mailing list was getting a bit crowded. Opening playtesting up for Pyramid subscribers grants us access to individual message boards for each project, and helps get the word out that Grey Ghost Press is working on a lot of nifty stuff."
Pyramid is an online game magazine. Updated weekly, it covers roleplaying, board and card games from throughout the industry. Features include Ken Hite's weekly "Suppressed Transmission" column and "Dork Tower" and "Murphy's Rules" cartoons from John Kovalic. Pyramid costs $15/year, and access to playtest files is just one additional benefit; subscribers also get access to a live chat room and dozens of bulletin boards on a wide variety of topics.
