Representatives from Hortalez et Cie have announced that insurance premiums for all ships operating in the Antares, Empty Quarter and coreward portions of Lishun sectors will rise by 10%; immediately. Speaking for the company, Sir Iver Langfors said that the increases, though regrettable, were necessary due to a sustained rise in losses due to corsairs and piracy over the past two years. Inquiries with other major insurers confirmed that all are likely to be making similar increases in the very near future.
President of the Antares Shipping Association, Lady Sharik Ghagashiisk, stated that increases were disappointing, as the rise in costs would undoubtedly be passed on to consumers. She went on to say that while the raiders and corsairs were endemic to any region bordering Vargr territory, the problem also tended to be cyclical in nature. Therefore she was hopeful that the need for increases would be short lived.

A collection of authenticist organizations has decided to recreate the experience of living on a generation ship, not by actually traveling from one star to another, but by crossing a single star system. INS Prometheus will be constructed in orbit around Terra, and then accelerated from Earth orbit to Mars and back again.
Passengers will take on the role of the first interstellar travelers, at least for the 22 months the ship will spend in transit. The ship will maintain radio silence (except for emergencies) and try to simulate an interstellar voyage as closely as possible. Passengers will first take on the role of the initial passengers, but in mid journey will switch personas and become the final generation of colonists. If the trip is successful, it may become a cyclical event.

The Imperial palace announced today that Emperor Strephon will host the wedding of Lady Elia Hortelez Muendor of Lode and Sir Etian Delgado Osmanlia, C.A.S., Baron of Mys. Archeologists have released more information about the crashed Imperial Courier found on a planetoid in the Nusku system a few days ago.
The vessel was INS Tungus, and was listed as missing in action in the closing days of the Solomani Rim War (990-1002). The remains found on site indicate a that Tungus had sustained battle damage, but had still managed to retain enough control on landing for most of the hull to remain intact.
Naval officers involved in the investigation believe that the vessel's lifeboat was launched before the crash, and that two of the vessel's three crewmembers abandoned ship before the crash. Evidence on the crash site indicates that the last crewmember survived the crash and was rescued by the lifeboat, but investigators are unable to explain why the crew left their personal effects on the ship.

Archeologists investigating a site on a planetoid in the Nusku system have discovered remains of a crashed Imperial courier ship dating from the period of the Solomani Rim War (990-1002). The ship shows signs of having been damaged in action, but investigators believe that the crash was controlled enough for hull integrity to have remained intact. No trace of the three crewmembers was found, but their possessions and effects were all present, and wonderfully preserved.
The most severe damage to the 100-ton vessel was to the boat dock. Investigators were unable to determine if the vessel's lifeboat had been launched or was knocked loose during the crash. Investigation of the crash site continues, and includes examination of the wreckage looking for clues to the ship's name and unit.

Fake Ancient artifacts from Excalibur in the Spinward Marches have been discovered for sale as far from the Marches as Core sectors, a representative of the Ministry of Justice announced today. Collectors of Ancient artifacts persist, despite Imperial laws against the practice – the only legal buyer for Ancient artifacts is the Imperial government. The spokesman emphasized that dealers in counterfeit artifacts are guilty of fraud, although collectors who buy fakes are not breaking the law.

A spokesman for the Hortalez Family Trust announced today that Harlan Aella Hortelez has died at the age of 101. Hortalez died of a stroke, and had been in a coma for the last three months, the spokesman said. His nephew, David Hutara Hortalez, currently chairman of the board and chief administrator of the Hortalez Family Trust (who took over upon his uncle's retirement in 1108), announced that the body will be cremated after a private service, at which Emperor Strephon, who is a distant relative, has agreed to give the eulogy.

Despite the Red Zone interdiction of the third moon of Excalibur, rumors persist that Ancient artifacts from the moon have turn up on the black market in the Spinward Marches. The interdiction was imposed on the moon by the government of Excalibur and the Imperial Interstellar Scout Service, to end the fighting between rival teams of treasure hunters in response to rumors that there are Ancient sites on the moon, a fact hotly denied by both the local government and the IISS. Baron Arvin Hault-Devros, IISS liaison to Excalibur's government, says that the alleged artifacts are clearly fakes, intended to take advantage of the publicity accompanying the arrest of treasure hunters on Excalibur.

Empress Iolanthe today departed Core en route to Terra/Solomani Rim to dedicate a statue of herself on that world. The artwork was commissioned by a Terran civic group to honor the Empress Iolanthe, in response to a groundswell of popular affection generated during her visit to the world as part of the Emperor's golden jubilee. An informal poll conducted among citizens of Terra shortly before the Empress departed that world in 1122 voted her "the most popular Vilani in history."
Space for the statue has been allocated in a special memorial garden located on land donated by the SPA of Phoenix Downport, and the finishing touched on the statue itself as well as the memorial pavilion constructed to house it are reported to be nearing completion.
The details of the route to be taken by the Imperial yacht and it's Naval escort fleet are classified, but the Palace confirmed that Iolanthe will visit the Vegan Autonomous District either en route to Terra or during her return trip.

"We regret the necessity of closing so popular an exhibit, but the board felt it was in the best interests of the Droyne community on Kamsii," a spokesman said earlier today. "Droyne Land was intended to be a representative community of Droyne, but the board and the leaders of the oytrip both agreed that the community on Kamsii was a typical Droyne community or representative of Droyne society. We have closed the attraction, and will not re-open it until we can create a truly representative Droyne settlement on Kamsii."
For the present, the Droyne on Kamsii will remain on the world, but will no longer receive guided tours. The KamsiiCo spokesman hastened to add that Hiver Land (operated with the full cooperation of the Sociology Club of Kamsii) remains as popular as ever, and will continue to operate.

Late last year, Prince Varian Alkhalikoi Alkhalikoi declared his intention to return to Sanches and take up his position as Duke, which became his upon the death of his father, Duke Dresden Paulo Alkhalikoi of Sanches. To date, the Duchy has been governed through a seneschal.

Emperor Strephon delivered his annual Holiday message from the Iridium Throne today, focusing again on his message of recent years: the relative peace and tranquility that has characterized the Imperium in the last decade.
"We have kept to a consistent and coherent path, both domestically, and externally, and the result has been that historians see the Fifth Frontier War as the last major event worthy of their pens –– an event whose 25th anniversary approaches. Babies born in an era of total Imperial peace are now adults, and raise children of their own, in every hope and expectation that that same peace will continue."
"My own family continues to grow, and the line of Imperial succession is insured for decades to come. I hold my grandson in my arms, and my heart almost bursts with pride each time I think that someday he will take up the burdens I now endure."

Duchess Elane Shankarr Muudashir of Mora has called for a formal conclave of the subsector dukes of the Spinward Marches, to take place on Holiday of 1124. The announcement noted that the invitation specifically listed each sector duke and that the list included Archduke Norris of Deneb, in his capacity as Duke of Regina. Political observers in the Marches believe this is the signal to date that Duchess Elane intends to patch up the political rift between her aunt (the former Duchess of Mora) and Duke Norris, begun before the start of the Fifth Frontier War.
Ω
In a press release dated today, the seneschal of Marchioness Alessandra Da Silva of Terra announced that officers of the Ministry of Justice and the Imperial Interstellar Scout Service, in cooperation with local police and military agencies, have arrested an unspecified number of individuals on a variety of charges, including money-laundering and illegal fund-raising. These individuals are associated with the organization recently uncovered on Ganesh in the Banasdan subsector of the Solomani Rim, dedicated to smuggling weapons, money, and equipment from inside the Imperium to supporters of deposed Solomani Secretary-General Marc Chissano.
Officials declined to release names of the arrestees or other details, but did say that only a small proportion were Imperial citizens, but declined to say how many were citizens of the Solomani Confederation.

The Imperial palace today announced that Prince Varian Alkhalikoi Alkhalikoi has declared his intention to return to Sanches and take up his position as Duke. The duchy has been under the administration of a seneschal since the death of Varian's father, Duke Dresden Paulo Alkhalikoi of Sanches. Varian has issued no statement himself – indeed, his precise whereabouts were not part of the press release, and are currently unknown – and the reasons for this abrupt change in lifestyle remain a matter for speculation.
Ω
Political observers noted today that Duchess Elane Shankarr Muudashir of Mora held court today, and included among her Ducal regalia the sash and medallion of a knight companion of the Order of Deneb.
Political observers in the Marches believe that Duchess Elane's use of the regalia (and the title in official proclamations) is further evidence that she does not intend to continue the rivalry between her late aunt (Duchess Delphine of Mora) and Archduke Norris of Deneb. This is a major change in the political climate of the Marches.
Ω
The office of Archduke Tranian of Gateway today announced that the Archduke has respectfully declined the offer of membership in the Tuday Club made t' him earlier in the year. "The Archduke was honored to be considered a sophont 'of the highest scientific or artistic achievement,'" the statement read, "but he does not have the free time to do justice to the organization."
This is the first confirmation of the rumors that the highly secretive organization had actually invited the archduke to join their number, which is limited to a total of 144 at any given time.

Operatives of the Ministry of Justice and the Imperial Interstellar Scout Service have uncovered an organization dedicated to smuggling weapons, money, and equipment from inside the Imperium to supporters of deposed Solomani Secretary-General Marc Chissano. In a series of arrests on Ganesh and nearby worlds, the MoJ and IISS have taken into custody more than three hundred individuals connected with the plot, and have confiscated several small mercantile spacecraft. In addition, documents recovered as part of the arrests indicate that fund-raising for the group may have been undertaken as deep into the Imperium as Terra/Sol.
Chissano himself is rumored to be held incomunicado by security forces of the provisional Solomani government of Jan Malikov. A spokesman for the MoJ stated "It is not known whether the plotters intended to try to rescue Chissano, but that would not be out of the question."
Ω
In a proclamation issued today, Emperor Strephon has inducted his nephew, Prince Lucan Alkhalikoi, into the Honorable order of the Emperor's Guard, as a companion of the order. Lucan's fiancée Tabitha Alonithen hault-Bennas was inducted into the Ancient and Preeminent Order of Sylea in the same proclamation. In an informal address at this morning's Imperial court, Strephon remarked that the knighthoods were awarded in honor of the Prince's upcoming marriage, and were an early wedding present to the couple.
It was further announced that a limited Imperial Warrant has been dispatched by jump-6 courier, to allow Fleet Admiral Sir Jopeth Hrothgar hault-Kurshar, commander of the Zarushagar Fleet, to knight Lucan and his fiancée as part of the wedding ceremony.

Dimmurak police investigators today announced that arrests have been made in connection with the undetonated bomb discovered earlier this year at Shadulammur Downport. The names of the arrestees are being withheld for the time being.

Persistent rumors indicate that the membership in the Tuday Club vacated by the resignation of Doctor Ganidiirsi Simalr was filled by Archduke Tranian of Gateway. According to one rumor, the Archduke was inducted into the organization at the societies' annual Holiday Fete on 123-1123. Membership in the highly exclusive society is limited to 144 "sophonts of the highest scientific or artistic achievement," and is by invitation only. If the rumors are correct, Tranian would be the first Tuday Club member of Archducal rank in the history of the organization.
The office of Archduke Tranian could not be reached for comment. The Tuday Club's public relations Office declined to comment, as they always do when requested to confirm of deny the identity of any of their members.

Investigation into the alleged misjump of the Far Trader Helena Concorda has discovered what appears to be a flaw in the ship's navigation programming that appears to have caused the misjump.
A board of experts from the Imperial Navy and the Scout Service finished a detailed examination of the ship last week, and discovered certain anomalous features in the ship's navigation program. The investigators have pointedly refused to state whether or ot the features were deliberately introduced to sabotage the ship or were an accidental result of the ship's crew attempting to modify their navigation programs.

Investigators have released more details about the private G-Carrier that crashed near the archducal compound on Dlan a few days ago. The vehicle's two passengers were killed instantly – their identities have yet to be released pending the conclusion of further investigation into their motives.
Investigators on Dlan revealed that the crashed G-carrier was packed with explosives, which did not detonate when the vehicle impacted the ground near the Ilethian family compound.
Several Suerrat political groups are under investigation as sponsoring the alleged assassination attempt, but all of them have denied any connection with the crash.
Ω
A private G-Carrier today crashed near the archducal compound on Dlan, in what is thought to be a deliberate assassination attempt on the dowager archduchess, who was present in the compound. The vehicle was traveling in defiance of instructions from the local traffic control computer, and departed from controlled flight after a series of radical course alterations, finally striking a ridgeline about 15 kilometers from the compound in property owned by the Ilethian family. Two passengers were killed in the crash.
Ownership of the G-Carrier has not been traced, and the two passengers have not yet been identified.

It was learned today that the membership in the organization known as the Tuday Club vacated by the resignation of Doctor Ganidiirsi Simalr was filled almost immediately by a "very high-ranking noble" whose identity remains a closely-guarded secret.
Meeting every other Tuday for dinner and a lecture by one of the members, the society is most famous for it's annual Holiday Fete (held on 123 of each year, for reasons which remain a secret), during which prominent members of Imperial society and government are lampooned in a short musical review written and performed by members. Membership in the highly exclusive society is limited to 144 "sophonts of the highest scientific or artistic achievement," and is by invitation only.
Ω
Political observers in the Marches are speculating about a recent proclamation issued by Duchess Elane Shankarr Muudashir of Mora. The proclamation itself is less important than is the duchess' signature, however. In it, she includes "Companion of the Order of Deneb" in the list of formal titles granted to her, something her aunt, the late Duchess Delphine of Mora, never did.
Observers wonder if this minor action might indicate a thawing in the decidedly chilly relationship between the Duchy of Mora and the Archduchy of Deneb. Archduke Norris and the late Duchess Delphine had a rivalry that lasted nearly a decade, from the time of the Fifth Frontier War to the latter's death. Duchess Elane's use of the title granted her by Norris indicates she might be attempting to patch things up.

The Imperial Palace announced today that the wedding of Prince Lucan Alkhalikoi, to junior lieutenant Tabitha Alonithen hault-Bennas will be held on the INS Thylaciness, flagship of the Zarushagar Fleet, on 120-1124.

Ω
Reliable news from the Solomani capital continues to be scarce, but TNS reporters on other worlds have pieced together reports that former Secretary-General Marc Chissano either escaped or eluded capture by the provisional government of Jan Malikov earlier this year.
Malikov's government has never commented on Chissano one way or the other, but has unofficially "leaked" that Chissano is in custody on Home, and that he will be eventually be tried as a war criminal.
The new information that Chissano is at large brings up the possibility that the unrest in the Solomani Rim may continue.
Ω
The Imperial Palace has finally issued a press release formally announcing the engagement Prince Lucan Alkhalikoi, to junior lieutenant Tabitha Alonithen hault-Bennas, a staff officer of the Zarushagar Fleet.
No date has been announced for the wedding, but highly-placed sources in the palace indicated that there will probably not be time for the couple to return to Capital in time for a Holiday wedding.

Ministry of Justice investigators believe that the body discovered in a Medurman hotel on 240-1117 was not that of Colonel Hiroshi Enera, former commander of the Ilelish Regiment of the Imperial Guard, resigned in 1116, shortly after Archduke Dulinor's death.
MoJ officials believe that medical records were altered to substitute false data for the real DNA of Colonel Enera, possibly to allow Enera to disappear and assume another identity.
Investigators with the MoJ and IN felt there might be a connection between the murder of Colonel Enera in 1117 and the murder of Archduke Dulinor, but nothing came of the investigation, and it was dropped some time ago. An MoJ spokesman said the recent discoveries have caused the original investigation of a possible connection between the Enera and Dulinor murders to be re-opened.
Ω
The mystery of the far trader Helena Concorda continues to confound investigators in both Boskone /Solomani Rim and Huy Braseal/Solomani Rim systems. The abandoned far trader was reported overdue in 1059 after departing Huy Braseal, and was discovered drifting in Boskone's belt by a transient vessel.
After an investigation lasting several weeks, including examination of the ship's flight plan and manifest, no further light was shed on the ship's evident misjump.

Duchess Margaret of Delphi has given birth to a daughter, Ardythe Margaret Alkhalikoi Tukera, named after the duchess' mother, and her husband's grandmother, Ardythe Fratelli Tukera. Ω
A body found in suspicious circumstances three days ago has been identified through DNA as that of Colonel Hiroshi Enera, which presents a problem for law enforcement officials both on Dlan and on Medurma/Sapphyre. Medurman police reported that Colonel Enera was allegedly murdered in a Medurman hotel on 240-1117.
Enera, former commander of the Ilelish Regiment of the Imperial Guard, resigned shortly after Archduke Dulinor 's death in 1116 and was en route to his native world of Dlan. It is believed by some that the Ministry of Justice and the Imperial Navy felt there might be a connection between the murder of Colonel Enera in 1117 and the murder of Archduke Dulinor, but nothing came of the investigation, and it was dropped some time ago. The recent discovery calls the Medurman investigation into question, and a re-evaluation of the evidence in both cases will no doubt be undertaken.
Ω
Police today discovered an undetonated bomb is a secure warehouse facility at Shadulammur Downport. The weapon was defused and removed by EOD units without casualties or property damage, but a spokesmen for the government said that "It was a close run thing – tragedy was narrowly averted by the heroic action of our Colonel Wu-Lan Jarvis and his EOD team. The weapon contained enough explosive material to severely damage the highport, and the loss of life had it been detonated would have been catastrophic."
No word is available who assembled the bomb or what purpose it was to have served. Ine Givar involvement is suspected because of evidence discovered at the scene, but the police on Dimmurak believe this may have been planted to mislead investigators.

A few days after the confirmation of Duchess Elane Shankarr Muudashir of Mora as sector Duke of the Spinward Marches, the office of Archduke Norris of Deneb announced that Duchess Elane had been inducted into the Order of Deneb as a Companion. The rank in the order held by her aunt, the late Duchess Delphine of Mora, was Knight of the Order, a rank reserved for senior members of the order.
The archduke's staff refused to comment when asked why Duchess Elane had not been given the same rank as her aunt, but a local expert in such things postulated that Delphine was given the higher standing because of her age and seniority in the sector, and was not a reflection on the new Duchess.
Ω
Elane Shankarr Muudashir, Matriarch and Duchess of Mora, was formally confirmed as Sector Duchess of the Spinward Marches in a conclave of the sector's electors. There were rumors that one of the subsector dukes in the Spinward Marches would call for a vote of no confidence, but this did not materialize, and Duchess Elane's election was achieved after a single ballot, according to a joint press release issued by the members of the conclave.
The office of Archduke Norris immediately issued a statement of congratulations to the young duchess, and quoted Norris as saying that "We have no reason to think that the Emperor will fail to confirm this election, and look forward to working with Dame Elane for many years to come."

Treasure hunters in the Excalibur system have come to blows, according to the government of Excalibur. Two teams, hunting for Ancient artifacts on the third moon of Excalibur in defiance of the Red Zone interdiction of the moon by the government of Excalibur and the IISS, allegedly engaged in a firefight with each other.

One of the first actions of the provisional government of Jan Malikov was the expulsion of TNS correspondents from the Solomani capital. Since that time, reliable news has been hard to come by, but rumors persist that various members of Secretary-General Marc Chissano's government have been sighted either on Home or on a nearby world.
One of the more persistent rumors is that Chissano himself is being held incomunicado by Malikov's security forces, and will soon be charged with war crimes.

Boskone officials investigating the evident misjump of the far trader Helena Concorda, reported that a salvage party discovered no one on board. The vessel had no damage, and jump and maneuver drives were intact. Fuel tanks were empty, consistent with the consumption of fuel accompanying a full jump. Officials have sent to Huy Braseal/Solomani Rim in an effort to uncover more details about the ship's flight plan and manifest.

The Imperial Ministry of Justice reported today that although seven of the nine individuals arrested for plotting the assassination of the Archduchess of Ilelish were ethnic Suerrat, there is no evidence that the plotters were pursuing any formal Suerrat political agenda.
"We feel that their ethnicity is coincidental to the plot," MoJ spokesman stated in a press release earlier this morning. "We are unable to state with any certainty why they wished to kill the Archduchess, but we are continuing to investigate the matter."
The office of the Archduchess declined to comment, saying that it would be premature to make any statement while the investigation is still in its preliminary stages.

Investigators for the Imperial Ministry of Justice reported today that a number of individuals on Dlan and elsewhere were arrested for plotting to assassinate the Archduchess of Ilelish. Officials acted before the plan could be put into operation, moving on information from agents inside the alleged conspiracy, and made the arrests on Dlan and other worlds. The MoJ spokesman had no details, other than to say that at least one of the arrestees was a Suerrat.
The archduchess would not comment on the arrests, other than to say that the MoJ had kept her and her security staff completely informed at every stage.

The seven exhausted their appeals in 1120, and began serving their terms after the highest judicial review of their case refused to overturn their convictions, and confirmed the convictions and the sentences.
The Seven Suerrat were arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and refusing to obey an order to disperse in connection with a demonstration that took place in front of Anitarra's Government House on 173-1118. The Suerrat, appalled at what they believe to be a deliberate attempt by the Imperium to absorb and weaken the unique culture of their homeworld, accused the Imperium and the Archduchess of Ilelish of "Cultural Genocide" were demonstrating against the growing use of Galanglic as a first language among the youth of their homeworld.

Professor Julian Trane, distinguished interstellar historian, announced today that he will extend his stay on Capital, both because of the popularity of his advanced seminars at the University of Sylea, and because his studies in the Imperial archives have taken longer than he originally anticipated.
Professor Trane's researches deal with the cyclical nature of historical trends, and his researches have proven especially fruitful. According to a press release issued today by the professor, "I have uncovered historical trends from the Civil War Era that have relevance to today's Imperium." Professor Trane refused to elaborate, and declined to answer if his researches are related in any way to Emperor Strephon's Holiday address and it's references to recent events. "Everything will become clear when I publish," he said.

The first major social event of the year will be the 110th birthday celebration of Countess Vienna Amalfi Zirunkaar of Quildhac, to be held at Matuschanski Memorial Hall on the campus of the Karbiili School on 027-1123. The Countess is a former instructor at the school, and is being feted by the Karbiili Alumni Association, a group whose membership roster represents a surprising number of the movers and shakers in the Imperial peerage, including such luminaries as Grand Princess Ciencia Iphegenia and Duchess Isis of Illelish. While over 2,000 are expected at the grand ball in her honor, the Countess has requested that the guest list for the dinner party earlier in the evening be limited to 180, and this has caused invitations to the dinner to be the most highly sought after commodity on Capital.
The countess is most famous for her outspoken commentary on Imperial society and government, and is widely known as a source of inside information on the highest noble families, the Imperial family included.
"I had a special sofa made many years ago," she once said, "with two spaces – one embroidered with the family crest for me. The other spot is embroidered with the legend "If you have nothing good to say, come and sit by me."

Controversial author Jamison Melendez-Kyzl claims he has evidence in the disappearance of Jeffrey Long. Long, a former reporter for the Phoenix Sun news organization (headquartered on Terra/Solomani Rim), is the author of a series of articles on a condition known as 'hyperspace sickness," evidence for which Long alleges has been suppressed by a military and industrial cabal. In 1118, Long vanished from a private mental health facility where he had been undergoing treatment for an unspecified mental disorder.
Melendez-Kyzl claims to have discovered evidence that Long's disappearance is the result of a plot by an Imperium-wide cabal of government and industrial officials to discredit the reporter, and reveals this evidence in his latest book Manufactured Madness, to be released later this month.

It was learned today that Doctor Ganidiirsi Simalr resigned his membership in the Tuday Club, effective the day before his wedding to Grand Princess Ciencia Iphegenia. Membership in the highly exclusive society is limited to 144 "sophonts of the highest scientific or artistic achievement," and is by invitation only.
Meeting every other Tuday for dinner and a lecture by one of the members, the society is most famous for it's annual Holiday Fete (held on 123 of each year, for reasons which remain a secret), during which prominent members of Imperial society and government are lampooned in a short musical review written and performed by members. No official comment has been issued, merely the statement by Doctor Simalr's seneschal that the Doctor had not taken an active role in society meetings or (or the Fete) for many years, and felt his new schedule would not have time for such frivolities.

Emperor Strephon delivered his Holiday address from the Iridium Throne today, emphasizing the renewed strength of the Third Imperium.
"Ten years ago, I resolved to take decisive steps to pull our Imperium together, giving it new strength and a new sense of purpose. Even in my position, one always risks error when one tries to chart trends affecting so many worlds at once. Yet I believe there has been considerable success.
"Some measure of that success can be seen in the relatively quiet times we enjoy. Few people notice the crisis that fails to happen. Yet I can point to at least four events in the last decade which might have shocked our Imperium to its foundations had they gone differently. That they failed to do so is due to the dedicated effort of billions of Imperial citizens, from the highest to the lowest rank.
"Specific thanks are due to our Archdukes, notably Isis of Ilelish, Norris of Deneb, and Adair of Sol. Each of these has worked tirelessly and with glorious success to defend our Imperium and keep it strong.
"Yet my family and the Archdukes could never hold the Imperium together alone. Often, when a crime is committed or the first signs of crisis appear, the man on the scene is an ordinary citizen, a being who seeks nothing more than to survive and prosper as an individual. Yet the actions of these ordinary citizens, these voyagers on the starlanes, more often than not hold chaos at bay. Our Imperial ideals of loyalty, integrity, and initiative continue to bear fruit among the trillions of Imperial citizens.
"With such examples before us, we will continue. We will continue with confidence and resolve, knowing that our Imperium is a durable institution. We will continue, maintaining both our talent for innovation and our great respect for tradition. We will continue into the future, that undiscovered country to which no man can avoid travelling in the fullness of time."

The Empress Iolanthe departed Terra for the last time today, her personal liner escorted by Imperial Navy elements as it proceeded to the coreward jump points.
Before departing, the Empress released a statement thanking the population of Terra for its generous hospitality during her extended stay. "Just over a year is far from long enough to exhaust the possibilities of the Human homeworld," the Empress remarked, "but it's high time I returned to where I belong - at my husband's side."
In other news, the Morgan-West polling service announced its discovery that the Empress is currently "the most popular Vilani in Terran history." Independent analysts dispute the objective basis of this conclusion, but agree that the Empress has become widely popular among the people of Terra.

In the aftermath of a naval engagement in near-Home space, there has apparently been a coup d'etat involving the highest levels of the Solomani government.
According to Traveller News Service correspondents, every senior official of Secretary-General Marc Chissano's government has vanished from the planetary communications net. The Secretary-General himself has not made an appearance in over eight local days. The last to disappear was Minister of Justice Catherine Lesalle, whose final text-only press releases appeared about 52 hours ago.
Major cities and other critical points are currently occupied by a mix of Home Guard militia, Solomani Security troops, and Marines from the orbiting task force. Outbreaks of violence continue, although they appear to be diminishing as supporters of the Chissano government choose to surrender rather than fight on. The occupation forces have so far been careful to avoid confrontation with the bulk of the citizen population.
Nationalist leader Jan Malikov has made a public appearance outside the Secretariat Building in the capital, reading a brief prepared statement. He announced the formation of a provisional government, and called on all the worlds of the Confederation to hold special elections for a new Secretariat.
"Now the hard work begins," he observed before departing in the company of several senior Navy and Solomani Security officers.

Traveller News Service correspondents posted to the Home system have reported signs of a massive naval engagement, centered on the jump approaches to the Solomani capital planet.
Even while engaged, the intruder fleet has made a number of radio broadcasts on civilian channels, apparently pre-recorded to be sent as soon as the fleet emerged from jump. In these broadcasts, the Nationalist political leader Jan Malikov calls on "all loyal Solomani citizens," demanding direct action against "the unconstitutional and illegal regime of the renegade Marc Chissano."
It is as yet unclear how much response Malikov's appeal has evoked among the population of Home. There are reports of explosions and scattered weapons fire in the capital and other major cities, but ordinary citizens are largely remaining off the streets even on the planet's day side.
Secretary-General Chissano has not been seen in almost 52 hours, although his staff have released statements claiming that he is overseeing planetary defense from an undisclosed location. The most prominent Confederation official has been Minister of Justice Catherine Lesalle, who has held a press conference promising the decisive defeat of "traitors to the Solomani people." Solomani Security Coordinator Elias Treleven has also made a rare appearance in the media, urging citizens to remain calm and stay in their homes until the crisis can be resolved.
Ω
A major fleet engagement is currently being fought in the vicinity of this star system's primary gas giant, according to Solomani observers reporting to TNS. The identities of the warring fleets are not known at this time. The fact of a battle in the Monterey star system is significant because of its proximity to the Solomani capital of Home.

After a brief confinement, Grand Princess Ciencia Iphigenia Alkhalikoi has produced an heir. Imperial physicians have announced that the birth was without complications and that the Grand Princess and her son are both in perfect health.
The Office of the Palace has issued a formal announcement of the child's birth, incorporating an Imperial proclamation of his name and his legitimate status within House Alkhalikoi. The new member of the Imperial family is Casimir Khugi Simalr Alkhalikoi, the third living Prince of the Imperium. He is apparently named after Count Casimir Aella, one of his maternal ancestors, and after Duke Khugi Laragii Simalr of Ushra, his paternal grandfather.

Queen Marie III of Aquitaine was killed today in what appears to have been a botched palace coup. Members of the planetary armed forces, with the support of unnamed cabinet officials, attempted to seize the royal palace and secure the persons of the royal family. The Royals Own Guard regiment successfully repelled the attack, but Queen Marie was hit by crossfire and quickly died of her wounds.
Palace spokesmen have announced that Princess Eleanor, the former Queen's only child, has assumed the throne of Aquitaine as Eleanor IX. The new Queen is said to be safely in the custody of the Royals Own, reinforced by several crack Action Teams on detached duty from Solomani Security. Senior officials are reported to be "rounding up the nest of traitors" who mounted the abortive coup.
Since the new Queen is still a minor, a regency council will be appointed as soon as possible, according to the existing laws of succession. The former Queen's husband, Prince Consort Ian Kellerman of Polyphemus, is currently engaged in matters of state on his home world. It is unclear what role he might have to play in the new government.

Political leader Jan Malikov has announced the complete victory of Nationalist allied forces over the Radical faction, during the recent main-fleet engagement in this system.
"Aided by an expeditionary force from the Free Republic of Kukulcan, our forces have trapped and destroyed the Radical regime's so-called Bootes Cluster Enforcement Task Force. At last report, the task force flagship was fleeing into jump with a few remnants. The Sequoyah system is secure from Radical invasion for the foreseeable future."
Malikov departed aboard the Nationalist flagship Sadao Kanzaki immediately after making his announcement. TNS reporters have been unable to determine the destination of the Nationalist fleet, although a substantial detachment has remained behind in order to garrison the Sequoyah system.
Planetwide celebrations have been ongoing on Sequoyah since the first announcement of the space battle's outcome.
Ω
A main-fleet engagement has been fought between Nationalist and Loyalist forces in the Sequoyah system. TNS observers have been unable to determine the outcome of the battle, but Sequoyah itself has not yet been invested by Loyalist forces, and it is presumed that the Nationalist fleet has won at least a tactical victory. Further news will be reported as soon as possible.

Official Release: Civilian traffic is hereby forbidden to enter the Sequoyah system (Solomani Rim 1337) until further notice. All such traffic is advised to detour via Teucer (Solomani Rim 1435) and Luuru (Solomani Rim 1234) if it must traverse the region. All civilian vessels are required to obey the directives of Confederation naval traffic control.
No ship of Imperial registry may enter Capella or Gemini subsectors while this order is in effect. Imperial ships violating this order and the territorial sovereignty of the Solomani Confederation are subject to being fired upon without notice.
By decree of the Secretariat, all personnel and resources of Solomani Security within the Capella and Gemini subsectors are to be immediately placed at the disposal of the Confederation Navy. SolSec officers aboard Navy vessels are hereby placed under the direct authority of ship's captains and the naval hierarchy. Failure to comply with this directive will be met with immediate and harsh retaliation.
Long live the Cause.
By order Nahali al-Tabari, Fleet Admiral, Bootes Cluster Enforcement Task Force

Imperial authorities have arrested almost a dozen operatives of Solomani Security on this border world. The SolSec ring was apparently in place to search for and assassinate Solomani defectors on Sarpedon. The arrests came after an unknown informant gave Naval Intelligence the crucial tip, enabling Intelligence operatives to trace and round up the entire ring at once.
Imperial authorities have refused to divulge the nature of the tip or of the informant, citing the need to maintain security for ongoing operations.

Nationalist leader Jan Malikov has appeared on Sequoyah, escorted by at least part of the Nationalist faction's fleet.
In a public statement, Malikov announced that the Nationalists intend to make a stand on Sequoyah. "With the support of the Sequoyan government, here we will wait for the Radical regime's lackeys. Here we will fight them. Here we will defeat them. Never again will we leave a world such as Vantage to the tender mercies of Radical justice."
"Here we stand. Nothing else is possible."

Baron Marc hault-Oberlindes, titular head of Oberlindes Lines, died today after a brief illness. He had just celebrated his 95th birthday.
Baron Marc was born a commoner on Regina in 1027. He spent much of his life building a major merchant line, which today serves several subsectors in the Spinward Marches and is beginning to build trade links outside the sector. His often-colorful career spanned the Fourth and Fifth Frontier Wars, as well as a major trade war with Tukera Lines.
Marc's son, Sergei hault-Oberlindes, has been recognized in his father's baronial rank by Count Evan Gerasimov of Roup. Confirmation of the inheritance will require several months, but is not expected to encounter any difficulty at Archduke Norris' court. Baron Sergei has already completed his assumption of control over Oberlindes Lines, and has announced a continuation of his father's policies.

A well-placed source within the aristocracy has revealed that high-level contacts may be taking place between the Imperium and Nationalist leaders within the Solomani Confederation. Although the source provided few details, it is claimed that the Empress herself is involved in the talks.
Rumors of these contacts have provoked a great deal of controversy here on Terra, with both pro-Imperial and pro-Solomani factions expressing disapproval. Surprisingly, the most public anger has been sparked by an unsubstantiated report that the Imperium is considering returning Terra to Solomani control. A news-media poll has revealed that only 23% of the Terran populace would favor such a move.
Responding to today's reports in the media, spokesmen for the Empress and the Ministry of State have denied any significant contact with insurgent Solomani. A statement issued today said that: "The Imperial policy of non-interference across the armistice line is firm, and has been stated in unequivocal terms by the Empress herself. To speculate or spread rumors to the contrary is not only foolish, it is criminally irresponsible."

A refugee ship has arrived in Sequoyah space from nearby Vantage, bringing news of massacre among that world's floating "sky cities."
The transport St. Louis limped into port, heavily damaged and overcrowded, carrying civilian refugees from Vantage. Before reaching port, the ship made a lengthy transmission to system traffic control, which immediately copied the content onto the public data web. The transmission included evidence that Vantage has come under planetary bombardment, and that at least some of its urban centers have been destroyed.
Vantage's population is uniquely vulnerable to orbital bombardment, said military analyst Steven Tallman. "The planet's population is 100% core-urban, living as it does in those high-atmosphere gravitic structures. On most worlds, a city's population is spread out, and can flee into the hinterland if it comes under attack. Not on Vantage, where there's nowhere for the population to go. At least the sky-cities are mobile, and can try to hide in the planet's cloud belts, but that won't work for long against a determined attacker."
This analysis seems to be supported by the content of the refugee transmission, which includes long-range footage of sky-cities being torn apart by meson explosions and deadfall ordnance.
"They're killing us," said one refugee who provided commentary during the transmission.
"All of us."

Imperial Navy spokesmen have confirmed that the warships interned here earlier this year are, in fact, Solomani Confederation Navy vessels.
"This was the losing side in a battle in the course of the faction fighting that's been going on inside the Confederation," said a Navy spokesman during today's press conference. "We've been interrogating as many of the interned officers as possible, to discover what has been happening in the Kukulcan subsector across the armistice line. Most of what we've learned is still classified. I can tell you that the detachment that came here was desperate."
Despite repeated questions, Navy spokesmen refused to reveal which Solomani faction the interned ships represented.

Official Release: All traffic is hereby forbidden to enter the Vantage system (Solomani Rim 1538) until further notice. All civilian vessels are required to obey the directives of Confederation naval traffic control.
The Vantage star system is under martial law as of 0200 standard system time this date. All ships of Vantage registry, military or civilian, are hereby impounded. Officials of the so-called "Vantage Provisional Government" are advised to report to Confederation Naval authorities within three standard days or be considered outlaw.
The "free port" declaration issued by the Vantage Provisional Government as of 16 September 5642 is hereby declared null and void. The Provisional Government has played host to traitors and saboteurs, and has forfeited any protection of Confederation law.
Long live the Cause.

The planetary government of Vantage has declared the world a free port, neutral in the dispute between Nationalist and Radical factions in the Solomani Confederation.
"The civilian population of our world is uniquely vulnerable to attack," noted government spokesperson Astarte Voss. "We ask the leaders of both sides in the current conflict to avoid any course that might lead to widespread destruction. Only the enemies of the Solomani people would benefit from any failure of restraint."

Imperial Navy forces based in this system have taken over system-wide traffic control and are aggressively challenging every ship to arrive or leave.
The action began several days ago, after a group of warships jumped into Kurland system from an unknown location. Imperial forces quickly engaged and captured the intruders, who seem to have put up minimal resistance. The intruder ships were directed to the Imperial reservation around the Kurland system's second gas giant, and civilian traffic has been directed to avoid the region.
Navy spokesmen have stated that the aggressive "stop and board" stance will be rescinded within a few days. Questions about the nature of the intruder flotilla have been halted by invocation of the Official Secrets laws.
Ω
Insurgent elements of the Solomani Navy, under the command of Fleet Admiral Michael Leonov, have withdrawn from the Vantage system for an unknown destination.
The news, revealed by spokesmen for the so-called "Vantage Assembly," has set off a minor panic among the local population. Berths on outgoing passenger starships are apparently solidly booked, and unscrupulous cargo carriers are reported to be offering passage in "steerage" at premium prices.

A brief popular revolution on this isolated member of the Sword Worlds Confederation appears to have ended with the return of Queen Ros to power.
The Enos monarchy has been in turmoil ever since the death of King Odinkar VI in 1108. The king's only heir, Princess Ros, was a small child at the time, so government was placed in the hands of a series of regents. The revolution, which began last year, was aimed at deposing the most recent regent, Hamund Nafnisen Riseger, a distant cousin of the royal house.
The young Queen Ros has made no policy decrees as yet, except to thank the people of Enos for their loyal support against "the usurper."
Although Enos is a member of the Sword Worlds Confederation, its internal economy and off-world trade are dominated by the Imperial megacorporations Hortelez et Cie and Ling-Standard Products. It is unclear whether the restoration of Queen Ros is likely to have any effect on the growing Imperialization of this world.

Imperial authorities have broken up a local sabotage-and-sedition ring with ties to the Solomani Confederation. Although the details are still held under an Official Secrets ordinance, authorities have revealed that the investigation leading up to the arrests was carried out by an independent group, which included several citizens of Kidashi.
"It's a very encouraging sign," said Navy spokesman Captain Sir Valentin Krasnov. "As the disasters of the Rim War fade into history, growing numbers of Kadashii have come to accept the Imperial presence here, to the extent that they are willing to take independent action to expel the disruptive elements in their own society. This may indicate that the Imperium can one day afford to permit Kidashi home rule."
Members of the so-called "Free Kidashi" movement spoke out against Captain Krasnov's remarks, calling them "a typical example of Imperial paternalism and high-handedness."
In a possibly related development, the consul to Kidashi from the Solomani Confederation has been declared persona non grata and expelled from Imperial space.

The former Marchioness has expressed a desire to travel in her remaining years. "I think I'll see for myself what's been happening in all the years that I've been busy at home," she remarked. "I may even go incognito. It would be fun to see how the galaxy treats an ordinary old lady whom no one knows."

The Office of the Palace has confirmed that Grand Princess Ciencia Iphenegia Guuilbataashullibaa Alkhalikoi is expecting a child, who will be born late this year. Medical examination reveals that the developing fetus is male and appears to be healthy.
The news has provoked widespread celebration on Capital, as it represents the first potential addition to the Imperial line of succession since 1088.
Some habitual Throne-watchers have remarked on the speed with which the Grand Princess has acted to secure the succession. "Of course, you have to consider the alternative," said Countess Vienna Amalfi Zirunkaar of Quildhac, a frequent commentator on Capital society. "If the line doesn't continue through the Grand Princess, eventually one of Duke Dresden's boys will be Emperor. Perish the thought!"
The Office of the Palace responded to Countess Vienna's impolitic remarks with a mild rebuke.

Imperial officials have detained several members of the New Bavarian Freikorps, charging them with technical violations of an Imperial edict.

In the aftermath of a devastating natural disaster, inhabitants of this agricultural world are seeking answers as to how the blow could have been permitted to fall.
Heya was struck by a Class 5 meteoric impactor three days ago. The impactor, a chunk of asteroidal rock and iron perhaps 300 meters in diameter, struck in the western Circle Sea region. Massive tsunami have devastated coastal regions everywhere on the planet, and the sudden displacement of megatons of water vapor into the upper atmosphere has caused planetwide cloud cover and storms. Casualties are already in the millions and climbing.
Imperial and local authorities are scrambling to provide disaster relief, but the event's sheer magnitude is swamping local resources. The Count of Heya has asked mercantile leaders throughout the coreward half of the subsector to assist by providing transportation and relief supplies.
Local officials have been quick to express gratitude for Imperial assistance in the crisis, but some have privately asked how the disaster could have been permitted to occur in the first place. "It's not like asteroids appear out of nowhere," said one official. "How is it that the Navy or the Scout Service didn't have the orbit of this object properly plotted?"

A substantial portion of the Solomani border fleet has apparently declared its support for the so-called "Vantage Manifesto," opposing the Solomani central government.
A cabal of senior Solomani Navy officers, led by Fleet Admiral Michael Leonov, has declared the Near Bootes Cluster to be free space. Fleet Admiral Leonov has disavowed any intention to move against Home. However, he has committed forces under his command to defend the Cluster against any attack, "whether from the Imperium or from the lackeys of the illegitimate Chissano regime."
Admiral Leonov is being advised by Captain Alexander Spyridion, a former defector to the Imperium who is apparently in the good graces of the resistance movement. Spyridion is acting as liaison to the civilian authorities, currently operating under the command of prominent rebel leader Jan Malikov. The position of SolSec political officers formerly posted to Leonov's fleet is unclear.
Unconfirmed rumors indicate that the Near Bootes Cluster is not entirely unified behind the Vantage Manifesto. Forces under Leonov's command have apparently fought minor engagements with Home Guard units based on the Cluster worlds Aquitaine and Polyphemus.

After meeting in closed session, a Solomani Party caucus has released a manifesto calling for extensive reforms within the Solomani Confederation.
Meeting here on Vantage in closed session, the caucus is largely composed of representatives from the worlds of the Near Bootes Cluster. Many of them are members of the Secretariat who abandoned that body earlier in the year, protesting the "illegitimate" government of current Secretary-General Marc Chissano.
Caucus spokesman Jan Malikov announced the existence of the manifesto today. "For over a century, we Solomani have been living in a prison of their own devising. In the name of our racial destiny, we have denied ourselves the freedom that was once considered our birthright. For fear of our foreign enemies, we have done ourselves far greater harm than those enemies could ever have done. No more!"
Malikov distributed copies of the so-called Vantage Manifesto to members of the press. Among other reforms, it apparently calls for an end to the Solomani Party's monopoly on legal political activity, several reforms to the Confederation military command structure, and the abolition of SolSec's "monitor" program.
When asked about the consequences of the manifesto for members of the Party caucus, Malikov observed, "Manifesto or not, we're all dead men if the Chissano regime lays hands on us. We may as well make a stand for what's best for the Solomani people."

Emperor Strephon returned to Capital today, concluding his year-long Jubilee tour of the Imperium. With him were Grand Princess Iphigenia and her consort, Prince Ganidiirsi.
With Strephon's return, the core of the Imperial family is once again represented on Capital for the first time in many days. Empress Iolanthe remains on tour in the rimward provinces, and is not expected to return until late in 1122. Prince Lucan has returned to duty in the Imperial Navy, and Imperial spokesmen report that he plans to serve at least one full term as a commissioned officer.
Observers at Capital are mystified by the continued absence of Prince Varian, who has not been heard from in over a year. At last report, the Prince had been in the Spinward Marches for some time, and was planning an excursion into the Jewell subsector.

Several senior officers of the Ludmillan planetary fleet have apparently mutinied against the authority of the provisional government, taking their commands out of port and into deep system space without orders. Tukera Lines freighter captain Qing Xiao-wen stated to TNS reporters that while his ship made its way toward the planet, it detected multiple outbound jumps in the vicinity of the system's largest gas giant.

Officials of the Ewm Shao Gwi tuhuir have voiced approval of the IBL-led provisional government on Ludmilla. "We reject any allegations against the Brotherhood that may suggest anti-Vegan racism," stated tuhuir spokesman Tyarr Elnak. "Such racism is a feature of the former ManFirst government, not of the Interstellar Brotherhood of Labor. Our tuhuir has no quarrel with IBL positions regarding interspecies relations or trade unionization. IBL opinions on human politics are not otherwise our concern."
Meanwhile, Joaquin Valleterre, formerly President of the Ludmilla Republic, appeared on Esperance today to deliver a fiery public statement denouncing the pro-labor movement on his homeworld. "These so-called labor leaders are nothing but jackbooted thugs, subverting the normal mechanisms of democratic government in order to impose their own views on everyone. The ManFirst party is the true expression of the will of the Ludmillan people, and we will not be denied our place."
Ω
A general strike and associated pro-democracy protests on Ludmilla have apparently led to a collapse of the local ManFirst government. Several Cabinet officials belonging to the ManFirst Party have resigned, and President Valleterre has gone into seclusion. This leaves the planetary government in the hands of the moderate Vice President Iole Shirika. She has announced the formation of a provisional government to hold power until open elections can be held. The Interstellar Brotherhood of Labor and the Ewm Shao Gwi tuhuir have both been called on to provide representatives for the provisional Cabinet.

The Office of the Archduke of Sol has confirmed that Empress Iolanthe will be extending her stay on Terra for some time.
"At present the Empress has cancelled the rest of her itinerary through the Solomani Rim sector," said a spokesman. "We can't say what her long-range plans might be, although of course we are happy to enjoy her continued presence here on the rimward fringe of the Imperium."
The Empress herself has made no comment on the subject, despite recent public appearances in the Gizeh Plateau monument district and at a performance of ancient light operetta in London.

In a rare public appearance, Confederation Secretary-General Marc Chissano today announced the establishment of a new arm of the Solomani Party: the Solomani Defense Council.
"The Council will be specifically charged with the enforcement of laws banning the operation of non-Solomani political organizations within the Solomani Confederation," said the Secretary-General. "It will have full access to Solomani Security's files, and will have all the authority it needs to deal with such illegal activities."
The Solomani Defense Council was apparently established in a closed session of the Secretariat several weeks ago. According to Solomani officials speaking off the record, it is already being organized and may go into full operation at any time.

Grand Princess Ciencia Iphigenia married her consort-designate today, in the midst of grand ceremony and public spectacle.
The Grand Princess was resplendent in a blazing white gown of Ushran shimmersilk, crowned with a diamond tiara. Doctor Frater Ganidiirsi Ling Simalr wore the full formal robes of a tenured professor of the University of Sylea, subdued in a deep blue that contrasted well with the brilliance of his bride's gown.
The ceremony was organized along traditional Solomani lines, in deference to the customs of House Alkhalikoi. Emperor Strephon gave away the bride. To the surprise of many onlookers, Prince Lucan Alkhalikoi also appeared at the ceremony, looking unusually fit and handsome in the full dress uniform of an Imperial Navy ensign. Also present in the bridal party was the Grand Princess' childhood friend, now Archduchess Isis of Ilelish.
The groom's father, Duke Khugi Laragii Simalr of Ushra, served in the traditional role of "best man." Many other members of the Simalr clan were present, to round out the groom's party and wish the newlyweds well.
After the wedding, Emperor Strephon presided over the coronation of Doctor Simalr as a new Prince of the Imperium. During the following state dinner, the Emperor spoke of his new son-in-law with unusual warmth.
"We are fortunate to welcome such a scholar, such a man, into our family," the Emperor said. "Prince Ganidiirsi will doubtless serve our Imperium with distinction, as a leader in the sciences, as a representative of our many diverse peoples, one day as Prince Consort. For my part, I count myself doubly fortunate. To trillions of Imperial citizens, Ciencia Iphigenia is the Grand Princess, the heir who will one day take up the Imperial throne and mandate. To me, she is also my daughter, a young woman I love dearly. I'm therefore pleased that she has wed a man worthy not only of the highest estate, but also of her profound and lasting affection."

The mysterious "embassy fleet" of Aslan ihatei has arrived in Sarmaty orbit, escorted by a detachment from the 109th Imperial Fleet. Leaders of the ihatei immediately proceeded to the estates of Taehtaukhakhtko, chief-paramount of the Aslan clans of Sarmaty, for private consultations. Thus far the ihatei have observed strict discipline, making no attempt to land upon Sarmaty in significant numbers.

The Empress Iolanthe has arrived on Terra, accompanied by the Archduke of Sol and their respective entourages. A substantial portion of the Imperial sector navy has also arrived as part of the Imperial escort, including elements of the 79th, 97th, 115th, 116th, 293rd and 294th Fleets.
In her first public statement, given from the Imperial Lounge at Starport Lagrange, the Empress announced that she carried an Imperial Warrant from her husband, and had been charged with implementing a number of changes of policy with respect to Terra and the rest of the Rim during her visit. She gave no details, but expressed the opinion that "all Imperial citizens of good will should have cause to approve of the prominent status of Terra and her children within the Imperium."
In a separate statement, Archduke Adair made mention of the apparent disorders going on within Solomani space. "Neither the Iridium Throne nor the Archduchy of Sol has any opinion on the political institutions of Solomani worlds which fall outside space claimed by the Imperium. The so-called Solomani Confederation must resolve its own internal disputes. It would be neither prudent nor justifiable for us to interfere in that process."
As is usual for high-level Imperial officials, the Archduke carefully left open the question as to which Solomani worlds might be claimed by the Imperium.

The Interstellar Brotherhood of Labor has produced evidence of shipments of arms being received by Human Bloc rebels, from an unknown offworld source. In protest, the IBL has called for a complete work stoppage at all starport and offworld shipping facilities on Esperance.

Silk Road Factors captain Barnard O'Neill has given a series of high-profile interveiws to the planetary media. These interviews have drawn public attention to the fact that Imperial free traders and small shippers have been operating across the Solomani border, in the ostensibly-interdicted Kukulcan subsector, for several months.
"The Solomani Navy isn't even pretending to enforce the interdiction any more," said Captain O'Neill. "In fact, I'm not sure they could even if they wanted to. There have been battles, and I personally saw evidence that the Solomani naval base on Ochre was in a shambles. I don't think Kukulcan is the only world in revolt in there."
When asked about the beseiged world of Kukulcan, Captain O'Neill denied having been there since before the secession crisis began in 1117. However, without giving the identities of the ships involved, he hinted that several Imperial free traders had successfully traded there in recent months.

Jan Malikov, a prominent Nationalist leader of the Solomani Party, has returned to Vantage after walking out of the Secretariat earlier this year. Today he announced that a Solomani Party caucus would be held on Vantage within a few weeks, "as soon as delegates can gather from all the worlds of the Near Bootes Cluster." The subject of the caucus was not announced.

Fresh from her triumphant visit to Shulgiasu, the ancient Vilani capital of the Rim Province, Empress Iolanthe has arrived on Muan Gwi to a tumultuous welcome. This first visit of a member of the Imperial house to the Vegan homeworld has moved even the staid Vegans to enthusiastic celebration. Members of the Guardian tuhuir greeted the Empress with the Opening of the Gates ceremony, a rite of great antiquity involving almost six hours of intricate dance and pageantry. Historians report that the Opening of the Gates has not been performed in its entirety in almost 2,000 years, and until now has never been recorded by a Human audience.
Following the ceremony, the Empress was taken to the estates of Archduke Adair, who will spend the next three days escorting his distinguished visitor on a grand tour of the Vegan homeworld. A series of official meetings between the Empress and the Viceroy will follow.

Officials of the Imperial 109th Fleet have been taken by surprise by the sudden appearance of a small Aslan ihatei flotilla. The Aslan, making up the equivalent of a light cruiser wing, powered down all weapons and opened communications with the Navy freely. They have expressed a desire to immigrate into the Imperium, and have apparently produced documents claiming the sponsorship of senior Imperial officials.

Reactionary "death squad" vigilantes have been unusually active recently, targeting pro-labor and pro-democracy organizations worldwide. Today's plasma-bombing of an Interstellar Brotherhood of Labor office in the planetary capital seems to indicate an escalation of the violence to new levels.
An anonymous call to the TNS field office on Yrsai claimed responsibility for the Scarlet Fraternity, a vigilante group widely believed to be an unofficial "action arm" answering to the Count of Yrsai. The Count's spokesmen vehemently deny any involvement in the Fraternity's activities.

The rollout of Adiishamer Six, a long-awaited redesign of the Shululsish planetary information web, has failed dismally. In a grand ceremony attended by Naasirka Director Shannash Li, the first demonstration network was established early this morning (planetary standard time). Within a few hours, the entire network had been brought down three times by concerted network attacks. By early evening, Director Li ordered the network taken offline for a thorough investigation.
Ewm Shao Gwi official Anaun Twoyen held a press conference to ridicule Naasirka's foray into planetary network engineering. "We repudiate the vandals and pranksters who attacked the Naasirka demonstration, but even so we find that their own demonstration was quite compelling. The citizens of Shululsish cannot afford to hand over the vital functions of their society to an infrastructure which is this vulnerable to attack."
At the close, Shululsish Internetworking LIC stock was trading at 33.5 credits per share, up from its low of 8.3 credits/share on 194-1121. Shululsish Internetworking is a consortium of several Shululsish-based computer-technology firms with the Ewm Shao Gwi tuhuir.

Celebrations were riotous as the ISS Lioness arrived in Aosta system, part of the Imperial naval detachment escorting the Empress Iolanthe on her historic visit to the Solomani Rim. The Empress touched down on this world, known as "the Gateway to the Rim," in early evening (planetary standard time). She was greeted by planetary officials, by the Duke of Harlequin, and by representatives of Archduke Adair. After a short but gracious speech, the Empress was escorted to the estates of the Marquis of Aosta, who will be her host for the few days of her stay here.

Professor Ililek Kuligaan of Dlan University is in the Solomani Rim on extended sabbatical, largely to study the recently-concluded succession conflict within the Duchy of Alderamin. When interviewed on Shulusish, he observed that "These things follow a Darwinian process. Everyone starts out by trying to gain the support of the marginal worlds, where a noble can get his name out on the news early. Once that's done, the ones who were successful go for the more important worlds to try to clinch the deal. Of course, there aren't as many of those worlds, so that's usually when the quarrel gets nasty."
When asked about similar situations in other parts of the Imperium, Professor Kuligaan was vague, but stated that "This kind of struggle is actually endemic to the Imperial system, I'm afraid. Whenever the man on top vanishes without a clear heir, all the usual ties of loyalty start pulling people in a hundred different directions. We're fortunate that the usual rules of succession don't allow for these events very often."

The Secretariat of the Solomani Confederation is in chaos, following the departure of over two hundred delegates. Members of the Liberal and Nationalist factions have staged a large-scale walkout, in protest against delegate Marc Chissano's continued presence in the office of Secretary-General.
"The current government of the Solomani Confederation is unconstitutional," said Jan Malikov, prominent Nationalist delegate and apparent leader of the walkout movement. "Until new elections have been held to fill the office of Secretary-General, we refuse to lend this illegitimate regime our tacit support."
Unconfirmed rumor has it that Solomani Security is placing some of the protesting delegates under arrest. Although some of the "walkout delegates" are so far remaining on Home to watch further events, dozens have already been spotted in the starports, taking measures to flee the capital.
Unofficial delegate counts indicate that the Secretariat can still muster a quorum, although the margin appears to be very thin.
Ω
The Secretariat of the Solomani Confederation saw an open break in protocol today, as a prominent delegate denounced the Secretary-General from the floor.
Jan Malikov called Marc Chissano's occupancy of the Secretary-General's office "immoral, illegal, and unconstitutional," and called on Chissano to obey the recall order which has been issued by the current government of his homeworld. "Chissano has lost any legitimacy his government might have held. He has only two choices at this point. He can step down and permit this body to elect a new Secretary-General who can weild power within the Charter. Or he can rule as a dictator. May our posterity judge him mercifully if he chooses the latter course."
Malikov's sudden denunciation comes after several days of quiet negotiation between his Nationalist faction and other factions within the Solomani Party. Observers have speculated that Malikov has been trying to resolve differences with the Secretary-General's Radical faction. If true, then any hope for such a conciliation now appears doomed.
The Secretary-General's office has issued a statement calling Malikov's speech "criminally irresponsible." Secretary-General Chissano thus far claims that the government of his homeworld Twilight is a mere "rebel junta," without the authority to issue a legal recall order.

Imperial fleet maneuvers in the Sarmaty system have apparently resulted in disaster, as the 10,000-ton cargo carrier Pride of Kha'urru came under fire from elements of the 1291st Colonial Fleet. The cargo carrier suffered serious casualties to the crew and losses to cargo, and may itself be a total loss.
According to Navy spokesman Lieutenant Fielle Wilson-MacCraig, "The cargo ship failed to heed navigation warnings and proceeded into the midst of a live-fire zone. At this time, the Navy does not believe the carrier's crew was negligent, as there is evidence that its comms and sensor systems were malfunctioning. Unfortunately before a warning could be delivered, gunnery officers on three ships participating in an exercise mistook the cargo carrier for a target buoy. The results were inevitable. The exercise was immediately halted and all hands mobilized for rescue and salvage operations. Naturally, the Navy will cover the cost of indemnities for the lost crew and cargo."
Naval operations in the Sarmaty system have been halted until further notice, pending a full investigation of the incident. The Pride of Kha'urru was a carrier registered within the nation of Aorhtoi on Sarmaty, of Aslan crew and ownership.

Secretary-General Marc Chissano has issued a public refusal to relinquish his seat in the Secretariat or his position as Secretary-General.
Nationalist leader Jan Malikov, himself a candidate for the office of Secretary-General in the most recent elections, responded today with a vehement speech on the floor of the Secretariat. "The ability of any member world's government to recall its delegates to the Secretariat is a fundamental part of the Confederation Charter. To flout that provision is to undermine the most basic principles of Solomani government: planetary independence, democratic procedure, and the rule of law. I call on Marc Chissano to step down now, before any further damage can be done to the foundations of our society."
Meanwhile, Confederation Navy forces continue to gather at Home in preparation for a peace-enforcement mission on Marc Chissano's home world of Twilight. The effort has been hampered by the abrupt resignation of several senior Navy officers, possibly due to adverse Solomani Security activities within the task force.
Ω
Nationalist politician Jan Malikov has returned to Home, in order to take up his seat representing the Bootean League in the Secretariat.
Malikov has not yet made any public statement regarding the current set of crises afflicting the Solomani Confederation's central governing body. However, he has already scheduled several meetings with other influential members of the Secretariat, including leaders of the Liberal and Radical blocs. Political observers speculate that he may be trying to smooth over recent disputes between the two opposed factions of the Solomani Party.

Baroness Jynel-haut Kurshar's allegations of criminal activity against Archduke Norris have been making news here for some time. Today, while making a number of other announcements, a spokesman for the Archduke has issued the first official comment on these allegations.
"The Archduke has been briefed on Baroness Jynel's activities," said Sir Clement Eshgaani. "I wasn't present at the time, but I understand he was . . . amused."
Sir Clement continued, "Archduke Norris is quite willing to justify his actions before any tribunal competent to judge them. In fact, he has such a tribunal in mind, and is willing to pay the Baroness' expenses if she wishes to put her case before it. After all, a trip to Capital is expensive. So is the process of winning a private audience with the Emperor. Of course, the Baroness will doubtless be away from her estates for several years, but the Archduke is sure that she will be willing to make that sacrifice in pursuit of her quest for justice."

The Secretary-General of the Solomani Confederation has taken the unusual step of ordering Solomani Navy forces to intervene directly in the ongoing civil unrest on his home world.
Rebel forces have recently seized control of most centers of government on Chissano's home world of Twilight (0912 Aldebaran). Claiming to be the legitimate government of the world, they have issued a recall order for Twilight's delegate to the Secretariat. Since that delegate is none other than Secretary-General Chissano, their order - if legitimate - could bring an abrupt end to the current government of the entire Solomani Confederation.
The result could be a constitutional crisis. Although it has always been theoretically possible for a Secretary-General's home world to recall him, the situation has never before arisen in the 250 years since the establishment of the Confederation's current constitution.
Secretary-General Chissano has made no public statement on the subject, and appears to be prepared to continue his legislative program without interruption. However, Solomani Navy forces in Aldebaran and Star Bridge subsectors have been placed on high alert, and a naval task force will depart for Twilight within a few days.
Ω
A rebel junta appears to have taken effective control of this Solomani world, despite a few pockets of resistance by Interior Ministry troops loyal to the dictatorial Chissano regime.
Representatives of the junta issued a statement declaring the establishment of "a republican government which will rule in accordance with the expressed wishes of the people." The statement promised "free and fair elections, as soon as the security of such elections can be guaranteed."
The junta also issued an official order for the recall of Twilight's delegate to the Secretariat of the Solomani Confederation.
Ω
A sudden popular uprising has - much to everyone's surprise - managed to depose the dictatorial government of this Solomani world.
Within the past ten days, a wave of general strikes has paralyzed major population centers across Twilight. When the planetary government attempted to crack down, Home Guard units went over to the strikers and attacked government secret-police troops. As of today, rebels appear to be in control of the capital city and have announced the capture or exile of the former government's top officials.
Twilight has long been ruled by the autocratic Chissano family. Since the outbreak of the revolt, few members of the clan have been accounted for, but most appear to have fled off-world. The most prominent member of the family is Marc Chissano, who currently holds the office of Secretary-General of the Solomani Confederation.
Ω
After a series of contentious floor debates, over 50 liberal members of the Secretariat have staged a walkout.
The Liberal wing of the Solomani Party has spent much of the current session of the Secretariat pressing for a less restrictive definition of the term "Solomani."
The original definition of the term covered only Humans born on Terra. Current Solomani law uses the term to cover all members of the "Solomani race," meaning Humans of predominantly Terran descent. Simple genetic tests are available which can confirm Solomani status.
The Liberal members of the Secretariat have recently agreed to cooperate in order to pass a less restrictive definition into law. Their proposed bill would permit all Humans to be eligible for membership in the Solomani Party. Despite their newfound cooperation, they have had only limited success in bringing the issue before the Secretariat.
Although the Racial Affairs Committee has heard several days of testimony, it remains deadlocked on the issue. Meanwhile, with the support of Secretary-General Marc Chissano, radical Party factions have passed several procedural measures which may make a redefinition bill almost impossible to pass even if it escapes the committee.
The current walkout of Liberal delegates is intended to protest continued radical intransigence. How long the walkout will last, and what strategy the Liberals will try when they return, is unclear.

Delphine Adorania Muudashir, Matriarch and Duchess of Mora, Sector Duchess of the Spinward Marches, has died of natural causes in her palatial residence on Mora.
Duchess Delphine was born on 021-979, the eldest child of Duchess Lutetia Ammon Muudashir of Mora and Lord Eneri Truell Adorania. She ascended to the matriarchy and Duchy of Mora when her mother abdicated in her favor on 001-1014. She therefore served in high office on her homeworld and in the Imperium for over a century.
For many years, the Matriarch was one of the oldest high nobles in the Third Imperium. She was also one of the most senior Knights of the Order of Starship and Crown – Emperor Gavin, the current monarch's grandfather, knighted her in 1018.
Archduke Norris made a public appearance this morning to announce the Matriarch's death. Appearing unusually subdued, he made a brief statement, concluding with: "Although the Duchess and I often disagreed, we never forgot the common service that we owed to the Imperium and its peoples. Few individuals have served with such distinction for so very long. Her presence will be deeply missed."
The Duchess' heir is her grandniece Elane Shankarr Muudashir, C.E.G. Dame Elane will take up her duties as Matriarch and Duchess as soon as an extended period of mourning, called for by Moran custom, is completed. In the interim, the Office of the Duchess will continue to carry out required administrative duties with Dame Elane's approval.

The Europan government has made a formal petition for the intervention of Confederation peace-enforcement troops in its ongoing civil rebellion.
The petition represents a reversal in state policy - only a few weeks ago the planetary government was publicly refusing to consider intervention. The level of urban violence has not increased recently, but the government is feeling greater pressure from local corporate interests to resolve the situation quickly.

A comprehensive peace accord has been signed involving several nations on Saxe, apparently ending a series of conflicts that has been causing turmoil on this balkanized world for over a decade.
Speaker Willem Sandoval, representative to the Bootean League from Sequoyah, was on hand to witness the signing. Afterward he observed that the event "was a victory for moderation and the rule of law within the Solomani Confederation."
Several Sequoyan Warrior Societies have been involved in the fighting on Saxe for years, helping to support pro-Sequoyan governments. They have often been opposed by troops in the pay of nearby Polyphemus.

The office of Duchess Delphine of Mora has confirmed the whereabouts of Dame Elane Shankarr Muudashir, the Duchess' grandniece and heir. Dame Elane is present on Mora, having cut short her planned Grand Tour of the Imperium. She is currently housed in the Matriarch's Palace and is making no public appearances.
The Office of the Duchess has declined to answer questions from the press regarding the reason for Dame Elane's change in plans.

Violent protests swept several cities today, as citizens railed against the arrest of Nueva Argentinean leaders. In one instance, a running gun battle erupted between local insurgents and Imperial soldiers, in which three Imperials were wounded. Imperial military police were able to contain the violence after several hours and the liberal application of riot gas.
Ω
Imperial military police, aided by officials of the Waothani government, have located and arrested Paolo Muriz, the former President of Nueva Argentina. Ex-President Muriz was taken in the company of several other members of the former government, all carrying weapons and apparently engaged in guerilla resistance against Imperial forces. He and his compatriots are presently being held in an undisclosed location, and will be tried for war crimes at the earliest opportunity.

A prominent Solomani Party official has been cleared of all criminal charges against him.
Jan Malikov, an influential leader of the Nationalist faction, was charged with criminal corruption and anti-Solomani activities last year. His arrest on the floor of the General Congress of the Solomani Party disrupted that convocation and may have affected the elections for Secretary-General that were underway at the time.
Malikov mounted a stubborn defense against the charges before the Vantage planetary courts. That effort has apparently paid off, with a finding that the evidence was insufficient to convict him of any charge.
Malikov has made no public statement yet as to his future plans, political or otherwise.

Imperial Navy spokesmen have confirmed reports of unusual movement of the Solomani Confederation Navy just across the armistice border. Solomani forces are apparently mounting maneuvers of unusual intensity in the Gemini and Kukulcan subsectors, and may be preparing for a renewal of open hostilities against the rebellious Solomani world of Kukulcan (2835 Solomani Rim).
Imperial citizens planning travel across the armistice border are advised to exercise caution. Imperial merchant vessels have already been excluded from the Kukulcan subsector for several years by order of the Confederation Navy. As of 050-1121, the Travellers' Aid Society is issuing a temporary Amber Zone alert covering the entirety of the two border subsectors.

The Imperial Mint has officially begun the issue of a commemorative coin marking Emperor Strephon's Jubilee.
The coin is being issued in both 5-credit and 500-credit denominations, the latter made from an iridium alloy in 125,000,000 copies. On the obverse of the coins will be a portrait of Emperor Strephon in profile. On the reverse will be an Imperial Sunburst.
The actual minting of the 500-credit coin has been spread out among the sector treasuries in proportion to the population of each sector. The coin is expected to quickly become a prize for many collectors.

A prominent member of the local nobility has announced that she is about to submit an extensive legal case against Archduke Norris.
Baroness Jynel haut-Kurshar appeared in public today to make the preliminary announcement. "My colleagues and I have been working for years to assemble this case. We have investigated the archduke's doings over a long period, stretching back before the opening of the Fifth Frontier War. We have uncovered clear evidence of the then-duke's questionable actions, and look forward to bringing the case before an Imperial court."
The baroness refused to go into details, saying that she did not wish to reveal any details prematurely.
"Be sure of it, though. We have the goods on Norris."

"Cheng Golok lives!"
A senior leader of the Interstellar Brotherhood of Labor addressed a crowd of Human and Vegan workers outside the Asterion Sports Facility in the capital. The speaker called for "eternal resistance to the forces that would divide us along lines of species or profession," and named the Human-supremacist faction in the government as "enemies of the people."
"It was a typical Cheng Golok occasion, and the speaker could not have been anyone else," said one commentator after the speech ended. "His face was slightly different, but his gestures, his choice of words, even his choice of venue - all vintage Cheng Golok. He's alive, and he's apparently declared war on the government of Ludmilla and its off-world sponsors."
IBL officials could not be reached for comment.

The planetary corporation Shululsish Internetworking LIC has announced a very large joint venture with Anaun Twoyen and other members of the Ewm Shao Gwi tuhuir. The Vegan consortium has signed an agreement to purchase several trillion credits of Shululsish-built computers, networking devices and robots over the next ten years. In return, SI will act as Ewm Shao Gwi's partner in marketing Vegan consumer goods and light-industrial equipment on Shululsish. A new corporation, Alderamin Holdings, will be established to coordinate the activities of the partnership.
At a press conference, Anaun Twoyen stated that "This partnership represents a new era of prosperity for the Alderamin Trade Zone. Naturally, we are pleased at the prospect of opening new markets in this region to Vegan goods and services."

Strephon's jubilee year has begun, with Holiday celebrations in and around the Imperial Palace.
The first order of business was the annuncement of the day's Honors list. Today's list was of unusual length, but held few surprises. In a solemn ceremony, the Emperor presided from the Iridium Throne over the conferment of honors on several dozen new knights and peers. Afterward he issued his annual Address from the Throne, making no major new policy announcements.
Holiday festivities began after the morning's ceremonial. The celebrations were of special magnificence, involving public appearances by over twenty dukes and three Imperial archdukes as well as the Imperial family.
Grand Princess Ciencia appeared at several functions with her consort-designate, Doctor Frater Ganidiirsi Simalr, F.O.A., of Ushra. The couple received congratulations from many of the Imperium's notables as well as representatives of the public.
Notable for her presence was Duchess Margaret Yetrina Alkhalikoi Tukera of Anaxias and Delphi, making an unusual appearance in Capital society. The duchess emerged from the Palace at the beginning of the day's events, with no previous public announcement of her arrival on Capital. She and her family spent most of the day with the Emperor, taking part in several ceremonies and social events.
Ω
On the eve of his jubilee-year Holiday, Emperor Strephon has announced the engagement of his daughter, Grand Princess Ciencia Iphegenia.
The Grand Princess' intended consort is Doctor Frater Ganidiirsi Ling Simalr, F.O.A., heir-designate to the Duchy of Ushra in the Dagudashaag sector. He is a tenured professor at the University of Sylea, and holds the Banasdan Chair of Comparative Sophontology there. He is widely regarded as one of the most influential young scientists in the Third Imperium, and is believed to be an unofficial advisor to the Emperor.
The Grand Princess and her intended will depart Capital after the opening celebrations of the Emperor's jubilee, sharing a Grand Tour in the Dagudashaag and Gushemege sectors. The wedding will take place on Sir Ganidiirsi's homeworld of Ushra late in 1121.
Ω
Emperor Strephon formally opened the Holiday season today, presiding over a traditional Alkhalikoi family ceremony at the tomb of the Empress Arbellatra. In a departure from usual practice, the Emperor invited the news media to record the ceremony from a discreet distance.
The Emperor was assisted during the ceremony by his daughter, Grand Princess Ciencia Iphegenia. The rest of the Imperial family was absent, most of them already on their way to distant regions of the Imperium in order to preside over local celebrations of Strephon's jubilee year.
Duke Ian Ashran of Cemplas also played an important role in the observance. The Duke was accompanied by his wife and a number of her Tukera kinsmen. The Duke's ancestor, Sergey Torgyan Ashran, was Arbellatra's consort and is also interred in her tomb. The Ashran family has the right to participate in the annual ceremony, although they decline the honor in most years.
After completing the ceremony, the Emperor departed the scene without making any official statement.
Ω
The Imperial Guard has declined to release the names of three persons arrested on the Palace grounds yesterday, pending further investigation.
"The culprits were apparently simple journalists, seeking out advance information on the upcoming Holiday celebrations," stated Sir Ioan Khatena, spokesman for the Imperial Guard. "We have no information thus far to indicate a more sinister purpose. Still, this is unlikely to make any difference in our treatment of the situation. Break into the Palace to steal a currant bun from the kitchen, and the Guard will treat you exactly as if you had planned mayhem on an Imperial minister."
Preparations for the upcoming Holiday have been carried out under a great deal of secrecy. Imperial spokesmen promise only that there will be a celebration of unparalleled magnificence.

Secretary-General Marc Chissano has accepted the resignations of three members of the High Council: Grand Admiral Georgi Asatiani of the Combined Fleets, Minister of Justice Rabindranath Chan, and Minister of Economics Joshua Dahvin.
Although the membership of the High Council changes occasionally as a matter of course, it has been over a century since as many as three members have left the Council simultaneously. Political analysts believe that the current changes indicate a significant shift in factional power at the highest levels of the Solomani government.

Nueva Argentina signed the Imperium-brokered peace accords today, although leaders of the former Human Bloc of nations expressed resentment at the terms of the agreement. "This treaty places Esperance in the effective control of Waothan and its Vegan-irredentist government," said President Miguel de la Pena of Gran Colombia. "No matter what the fortunes of war, the Human citizens of Esperance have rights as well, and will one day cast off this fascist regime."
Speaker Raeb Alaok of the Waothani government rejected these veiled threats. "Waothan has no interest in violating the rights of Human citizens of Esperance. Indeed, Waothan has many Human citizens of its own who are valued members of society. Still, the so-called Human Bloc has several times committed treason against the Imperium, violated the Rules of War, and trampled on the civil rights of Vegans everywhere on this planet. They can hardly claim to be the victims at this point."

On the final day of the senate convocation, the electors continued to cast their ballots in order to select a candidate for the Duchy of Alderamin. Unofficial sources indicate that there was considerable back-room negotiation, both overnight and between today's rounds of balloting. On the 14th ballot, Count Carl Gyldenskjold of Shululsish won a clear majority of the electorate and was declared the choice of the convocation by Archduke Adair. The Archduke immediately decreed his concurrence with the selection, and announced that Count Gyldenskjold will immediately assume the position of Duke of Alderamin, subject to confirmation by the Emperor.
When the news reached planetary networks, Shululsish erupted into impromptu celebration. Count Gyldenskjold is quite popular here on his homeworld, and many citizens were quite open in their wish that he be promoted to the duchy.
Ω
Today's debate in the ducal senate involved the identity of the next Duke of Alderamin. Post-session interviews revealed several surprises. Count Carl Gyldenskjold of Shululsish was mentioned by a number of the barons as the leader in the day's discussion, winning a substantial plurality of the votes. Other candidates receiving significant vote blocs included Count Willem Salacrou of Cuchulain and Countess Aurelie Muuadin of Hoatzin.
The biggest surprise of the day involved the Aslan chief-paramount, Teahtaukhakhtko. Apparently at one point in the day's discussions he was nominated for the duchy, and during the balloting he received a small bloc of votes. However, the ko himself refused to be held in consideration for the office, and quite visibly instructed all Aslan members of the senate to abstain from voting. Thus the ko received votes only from non-Aslan senators, and clearly did not vote for himself. No explanation has been forthcoming for this maneuver.
A small bloc of pro-Solomani peers registered a protest vote by nominating and supporting the ancient Solomani cultural icon, Mickey Mouse. Archduke Adair was said to be noticeably irritated, and ruled the nomination out of order.
The day's proceedings were apparently orderly, although Baron William Royce of Hoatzin was ejected from the convocation about midday. The palace's Sergeant of Arms refused to comment on the reason for the ejection, other than to note that it was ordered by Archduke Adair. Baron Royce was seen departing the senate building wearing an unusual piece of costumery: two large black discs affixed to the sides of his head.
Ω
Archduke Adair has arrived on Shululsish to preside over the upcoming meeting of the ducal senate. He has taken up residence on the estate of Count Gyldenskjold, sharing those quarters with such worthies as the Countess of Hoatzin and the Aslan leader Teahtaukhakhtko. Late this evening he appeared at a grand ball held in the Ducal Palace, accepting the homage of the assembled peers.
It appears that a clear majority of the duchy's peerage has arrived on Shululsish for the convocation. A clear quorum of the electors seems almost certain. The highest-ranking peer not in attendance is the Count of Dimmurak, who sent his regrets (and his proxies, held by the Marquis of Boqueron). Many other prominent figures of the Alderamin region are also present, including representatives from all major Imperial corporations and several delegates from the Vegan Autonomous Region.
One delegation of particular interest is that of Teahtaukhakhtko. The Aslan chief is naturally accompanied by his son and heir Staiyoea, but also by two young Aslan not formerly seen in his retinue. Aslan-watchers on Shululsish have spent much time speculating about the identities of these new followers, whom the ko is apparently treating with great honor.
Security in the starport area and throughout the capital is very tight, with Imperial and planetary forces all involved and on high alert. There has been no trouble, although a minor incident occurred early this morning when a passenger off the Dingir Star was arrested by the planetary constabulary. The passenger's identity is still being held in confidence, but he is reported to be a former employee of Tukera Lines presently traveling on a Cuchulain passport. Constabulary spokesmen announced that he was being held on suspicion of involvement in assault and extortion charges, dating back to 1116.

Archduke Adair appeared in public with Countess Aurelie Muuadin of Hoatzin today, presiding over a gathering of Hoatzin's foremost industrial and business leaders. The Archduke praised the Countess for her management of her domain, particularly with regard to the recently negotiated end to the Stralsund dictatorship and the financial bailout of the Gran Hoatzin Consortium. Afterward, gossip columnists speculated about whether the Countess had attracted the Archduke's eye, but there seemed no visible evidence of any personal connection between the two.

Escorted by a powerful Imperial naval detachment, Archduke Adair arrived in-system to perform a brief inspection of colonial forces occupying Esperance. After receiving a briefing on the situation, the Archduke appeared in public to praise the Imperial soldiers and spacemen involved in bringing the Esperance War to a speedy conclusion. "With malice toward none, with mercy to all, we intend to bring a new era of peace and reconciliation to this troubled world."
The Archduke had particular praise for the Imperial commanders on the scene. For his actions as overall commander during the Esperance War, the Archduke announced that he was granting a baronetcy to Admiral Sir Kristian Sandkvist, commander of the 1295th Colonial Fleet, effective immediately.
In other news, the Vegans of Waothan have taken the unusual step of agreeing to all terms of the Imperial peace accord before those terms could be announced. "We are confident that the Imperium will protect our rights," said Raeb Alaok, advisor and spokesman for the Waothani central government. Raeb Alaok declined to address rumors of recent shuffling of administrative positions within the Waothani government.
