In the year since its release, Last Unicorn's Origins Award-winning Star Trek: The Next Generation Roleplaying Game has produced a number of excellent supplements, each making another facet of the Star Trek universe available to eager gamers. Their latest release, The Way of D'era, is no different -- except that it surpasses everything done to date, both in depth and in quality.

The Way of D'era is a boxed set, consisting of three books detailing the treacherous Romulans and their Star Empire. Book One, The Romulans, is 112 pages and describes this enigmatic race, their history, culture, equipment, government and military. Book Two, Romulan Characters, is 64 pages and details Romulan characters for the ST:TNG RPG. Book Three, Romulan Adventures, is 32 pages and provides two ready-to-use scenarios featuring the Romulans.

The boxed set also includes two large (17" x 22") posters. One poster shows Romulan space, the Neutral Zone and surrounding areas. The other poster is a ship and uniform recognition chart. Both are attractive and quite usable.

Book One: The Romulans

This large book begins with a short fiction piece meant to convey the thoughts and culture of the Romulans. I've never been one for gaming fiction, but the piece is serviceable and does a good job of getting one into a Romulan mindset. Chapter Two describes the background and history of the Romulans. . . .
