The watchword for the Might and Magic franchise is definitely "evolution," not revolution. Heroes of Might and Magic III was a refinement of HoMM2 (though a very tasty one), and MM7 is no different. There is a definite sense of deja vu as you read over the character creation and game control options. Fortunately, this turns out to be a good thing in most cases.

System Requirements

The hardware requirements are refreshingly light when compared to the latest batch of games to hit the market. New World Computing recommends a P200, 64MB ram, 4X CD-rom drive, and at least 375 MB of hard disk space. Also required are DirectX 6.1 compatible video cards and any DirectX sound card (which means that Win95/98 also has to be installed). They do say that a good (at least 8MB ram) 3d video accelerator would help, and I can't help but agree. These days it's hard to find a system for sale less capable than this, but users of older computers might have to watch out, especially with the video accelerator cards.

Two disks, a fairly complete if utilitarian instruction manual, a color map of Erathia, quick-start and reference cards and the Adventurers' Guide to Role Playing which is a simple guide to novices about the . . .
