GAMA Taps Phythyon to Head Public and Member Relations

The Game Manufacturers Association (GAMA) announced today that it has hired John R. Phythyon, Jr. to fill the newly-created position of Public and Member Relations Director. The job reflects GAMA's recognition of the need for a full-time PR director to accomplish its mission: promoting the general interest of all persons engaged in the buying, selling, licensing, and manufacturing of hobby game products. In addition to public relations, Mr. Phythyon will also handle member services, helping to create and maintain affinity programs for GAMA members.

Mr. Phythyon has been involved with GAMA since 2000, when he joined the board of directors. In 2003, he was elected to the office of Vice President, a position he resigned prior to accepting his new role. He has also served as Chair of the Academy of Adventure Gaming Arts and Design, which handles the annual Origins Awards.

In addition to his GAMA experience, Mr. Phythyon is a veteran of the hobby games industry. He served as RPG Line Manager for Avalanche Press, Ltd. from 2001 to 2004. In 1996, he left Capital City Distribution to found Event Horizon Productions, an RPG-publishing firm that he sold to Guardians of Order in 1999, for whom he acted as both Marketing Manager and Senior Editor from 1999 to 2000.

The Game Manufacturers Association is a non-profit trade . . .
