Now, this feels like a good roleplaying book. The bright, glossy color cover features an evocative bit of artwork that nevertheless isn't inappropriate for, say, a coffee table. The book has a nice heft to it, and is liberally sprinkled with illustrations. In fact, the artwork drew me towards this. With a wonderful mix of styles, ranging from European woodcuts to incredibly twisted modern horror pen and ink, it's a pretty book.

That you get to be immortal is a nice bonus. Oh, okay, it's the characters (Protagonists) and not the players that get immortality, but that sets the tone of the work. You're immortal, and you have many things to do and discover in the Secret World.

The first page gives a nice summary of what to expect. As the 'second Foundation Book' for The Everlasting, this books is both a stand-alone and supplement. The setting for the series is the "Secret World", and each book carves out a particular niche. For Book of the Light, we get medieval. This is the world of Angels and Demons, Daevas, Questors, and Wer (and Elves, for those who like that sort of thing).

The book starts with the (by now) obligatory light fiction, part two of four (in keeping in with its 'supplement but also stand-alone' nature). Perhaps it's a wonderful piece of writing, but I tend to skip such things.
