With few exceptions, humor has been little touched upon by the d20 system, which is odd given that gamers and roleplaying have been the subject of no little humor over the years. In fact, the source for The SnarfQuest RPG World Book is a classic of gaming humor, as the Larry Elmore-created comic strip ran for eight years in the 1980s in Dragon Magazine. And although The SnarfQuest Graphic Novel -- which collected those strips and added more -- contained AD&D statistics for Snarf, his friends, and his enemies, it did not provide any more information for gaming in Snarf's world. This omission is rectified with The SnarfQuest RPG World Book, which includes not only the statistics for these characters under the d20 System, but enables players to create characters to run in this world. In addition, it also discusses how to add humor to your d20 System game.

The small white hardback is nicely done -- simply laid out with a wealth of excerpts from Elmore's strip. Along the way, Elmore interjects the text with speech bubbles containing commentary upon the strip. These insights are relevant to the main text and give the artist room to tell the reader how the strips are created and where he gets his ideas. The result should please any SnarfQuest fan and help the DM . . .
