$19.95Anyone who read my review of Mississippi Queen knows how much I liked it. It has something for everyone -- simple rules, great components, and light-hearted competition. A great game. And now they have made it even better.
The Black Rose is a supplement for the game, created by the designer Werner Hodel. As you may already know, Mississippi Queen was his first design, and it earned the honor of German Game of the Year for 1997. Thats an amazing honor for a first game. Black Rose is a collection of optional rules for use all together or in any combination.
This is again a production of the German game done for English speaking audiences by Rio Grande Games. Unlike the original game, however, this supplement came out simultaneously with the German version. They also printed this product on the same line as the German one, making all the parts compatible. Purchasers of the German version of Mississippi Queen can also use this supplement, as all the pieces are identical.
The rules themselves are separated into three sections. The first section is about the new tiles. On these tiles are a couple of new terrain features. One is a sand bar, which will stop a steamboat. Once stuck on a sand bar, you must back up or move straight forward to get off the sandbar. You can also push an opposing steamboat onto . . .
