We may be headed for the year 2000, but we're not done destroying the world yet. The Apophis Consortium wants to do us all in with Obsidian: The Age of Judgement, their entry into the hell-on-Earth subgenre of post-apocalyptic settings.

[Editor's Note: Yes, they spell "Judgement" with an "e" in the middle, but since it's the title of their game, we'll let it slide.]

The mysterious Divinity created Sheol (Hell) and allowed it to quietly feed from the rich, lively realm of Earth. When man evolved, he brought with him the taint of sin, a taint that spread to Sheol. The Divinity split hell into nine circles in hopes of containing the spread of man's evil, but man exceeded the Divinity's wildest fears. One circle after another fell before the power of sin, and the daemons of these circles, having tasted it, wanted more. They seduced many a historical figure with dark promises, driving mankind to commit ever greater follies. Most of history is therefore comprised of competing conspiracies aimed at bringing about -- or stopping -- some sort of Armageddon.

The Earthbound Kults did hell's bidding too well, and in 2026 the floodgates opened. Portals to Sheol split wide and daemons walked the Earth, laying waste to man and his works. Humanity found itself hovering on the brink of extinction, hiding in a town they called . . .
